What's your perfect offseason?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
King is fond of Lopez and says the team is not looking to deal him. But he also acknowledged the need to scrounge up some draft picks after sending so many to Boston. “We are not shopping Brook Lopez,” King told Grantland last week. “Our goal is to get Brook as healthy as possible. But if deals present themselves, we’ve got to look at them. If we can get draft picks back at some point, that would help.”

that's a quote from February. i would certainly call the Nets about Lopez...getting him would be a home run imo

He's missed pretty much all of 2 out of the last 3 years with injuries. That's always scarier with big guys. I don't want that contract risk.

In a perfect world, we trade Tristan for Harrison Barnes or Jonas Valuncsdgsdgsasdfs and Austin Carr hires me as his personal assistant/best friend.

Best place as any for discussing 2014 free agents.

I'd make a run at Marcin Gortat before paying Spencer Hawes to stay.

Assuming Griffin is kept as GM we now know he wants to add shooting, BB IQ, and length.

L Train beat me to the punch on Lopez.
First off I could see Griffin pursuing this type of deal: Tristan+Jack+#9 pick to Brooklyn for Brook Lopez. Yes Lopez has had injury issues but he is the type of big man the Cavs need. He is a top 5 offensive big not to mention a rim protector and all star. Not the best rebounding C or someone who can get out and play on the perimeter though. The whispers out of Brooklyn is that Kidd prefers a more mobile center. Lopez recently had the arch in his foot remolded somewhat similar to the way Ilguaskas had his foot reshaped. Big Z went on to play 7-8 fairly injury free seasons. Lopez could be worth the risk especially if it 'only' cost TT+ a mid lottery pick. Of course Cavs would have to do their due diligence on Lopez's recovery before making such a deal.

With a Lopez+Bennett+Dion+Kyrie supporting cast it would be time to pursue LeBron in FA to fill the huge hole at SF even if it meant renouncing every one of the free agents although I would still like to keep Andy if possible. Of course if LeBron does decide to come back the Cavs would be ready to compete for a title. Otherwise it's time for plan B which would be to pursue a lesser SF possibly Trevor Ariza in FA or trade for someone like Wilson Chandler.

I'm not so sure Lopez is the right choice. Bynum was an atrocious fit on this team, and while Lopez is certainly better than the broken-down version of Bynum we had, I'm not sure he's different enough in his style of play that he would be a good fit for us at center. And if we're locking into 32M over the next two years for an injury-prone center, we better be sure he'll be a perfect fit and produce at an elite level for us. I don't have that kind of confidence in Brook...this is the kind of move that could destroy our entire rebuild if it goes badly.

Use any combination of Thompson, Jack, expiring contracts, Bennett and Zeller if we have to, and any of our draft picks to get Love, Asik, and a shooter at the 3.

The difference is Brook actually likes basketball, is a likeable kid, and though not super mobile he still won't stand like a statue in the paint demanding the ball the way Bynum did. The injury history, the fact Brooklyn has given away all their draft picks, and Kidd's desire to have more of a Tyson Chandler type C are the only reasons he will be possibly available and could possibly be moved at draft time. Of course I believe Griffin, assuming he's the GM, would prefer Love but I still highly doubt Minnesota moves him this offseason let alone before FA begins this summer. In the big scheme of things not sure dealing Tristan+ the #9 pick destroys the rebuild at this point but Lopez's injury history does give reason for pause. I'd make the deal if it in some way can sway #6 to come back. Having Kyrie and Brook would mean the Cavs would have 2 all stars on the roster which could make a difference. Unfortunately the Cavs have passed on two legit centers in consecutive drafts and good big men rarely come available unless they have some sort of wart (injury history, impending FA, attitude issues, etc). The Cavs are now in a position where they will have to continue swinging on a big man until one of them hopefully works out.

Getting Lebron would make for a pretty perfect offseason. Anything else that happens would be gravy.

As this doesn't involve LeBron or being able to pull off a trade for a true superstar like Love, It's not a "perfect" offseason, but lets call it a realistic one and one I think would set us up well for the next year and the future

-Trade Tristan and Jack for Thad Young Creates 2 million more in cap space. Gets rid of Jacks redundancy. Add Young who is a superior defender and scorer to Tristan and versatile enough to spend time at both the 3 or 4 depending on the matchup. Young wants out of Philly and TT gives them another young piece with Potential. Jack gives them a backup to MCW and helps them get near the salary cap floor

-Let Hawes walk. With Young and Bennett at PF you have floor spacing. But we'd need more of a defensive force at Center to make up for their size. Enter Asik.

-Trade second rounder + future protected top 20 protected 1st rd pick for Asik. If Houston determines they want to go after Melo, which has been rumored, they will need to trade both Asik and Lin for no incoming salary.

-resign Deng. Overpay for 3 year if necessary. Make the moves for Young and Asik first to entice him. he already likes the facilities and support structure. As the shock of the Grant firing wears off, we could convince him to stay with a high offer and an improved team.

-Add a backup SG. Preferably someone who moves well without the ball, has decent length, can hit 3s, and is average to above average at defense. Re-signing CJ works. Going after someone like Thabo is a possibility.

-Draft best available player a 9

Kyrie Delly
Dion Miles
Deng Karasev Felix
Young Bennett
Asik Andy Zeller
+9th pick

That team would compete in the East and we still have tons of pieces and picks to make a great package for a superstar via trade if one actually comes on the market.

Do the cavs still have the space to sign 2 max free agents this off season?

Irving/Delly/Jack
Waiters/Miles
LeBron
Bosh/Bennett
Embiid/

Step one win the lotto.
Step two....
Step three profit.

Seriously though, I believe a trade of the number one pick with an extension for Love or Gasol would be our best move.

Irving
Waiters
?
Love
Zeller

Irving
Waiters
?
Bennett :(
Gasol

That makes us a much better proposition for LeBron. I was going to say free agents, but we all k ow it comes down to LeBron.

Gasol would be my personal top target. He is the perfect player to play with Irving imo.
