There was a report on RealGM regarding Andre Miller leaving the Nuggets for possibily the Cavs and/or Heat. With Anderson Varajeo sitting at home, I just wondered is there any validity to these rumors? Truth is, seeing Andre in a Cavs uniform, even at 31, is something I think most of us would like to happen, an actual point guard suiting up for the cavs, who would have thought?

Ya im pumped on this Idea. Andre is a real point guard with scoring abilities. He cant shoot the three , but im fine with that. We got enough 3 point hawks on the team. I think that the Av thing is just beyond reconciliation. If he came back to the team tommorow I think the fans would not be welcome him. The only thing we can do is a sign and trade now. We got cedric simmons and duwayne jones to replace him. Im thinking Av for Andre and eric snow for a 2nd round draft pick. Please Santa this is all I want for Christmas.

Andre Miller is a 31 year old short guard with who doesn't have a long range shot and is a step slow. Players like that almost never just "snap out of it" and start playing at a high level again. Usually they are just about done with their NBA careers except for occasional minutes off the bench. Example: Antonio Daniels. His game is never going back to where it was when he was 28 or 29. And at least Daniels is tall for a PG and can hit 30% of his 3-point attempts.

I'm not huge a Bibby fan, but that guy has 1-2 seasons left at the top of his game and can still contribute with outside shooting as he slows down in his 30's. Miller might be a decent bench player for the rest of his season. Maybe. If he decides to work on getting back into shape. There are some big question marks about Miller's ability to contribute on a team that doesn't suck.

Better having his 14 points per game then having AV drunk on rum on the beach.

As I said in the trade thread, I would do Newble+Damon for Andre in a heart beat and I think it would help Philly as well. I wouldn't involve AV, and I don't think Philly wants to add salary. The only reason I wouldn't do something like that is if it looked like we could get something better with those pieces by waiting.

Maybe Miller is done, maybe he's not, but his contract expires when all our other contracts expire so it'd be worth it to find out how he'd respond playing on a functional team again.

From John Hollinger's writeup--

The five most similar players to [Andre] Miller were Eric Snow, Robert Pack, Sedale Threatt, Anthony Johnson and Sherman Douglas. Snow and Johnson took major dives at this age, as did several lesser players on the similarity list, and the others didn't exactly blossom with age.

It seems reasonable that Miller might follow the same path. Given that he's a) a guard, b) not in a great shape, and c) not a good outside shooter, Miller is almost the perfect prototype of a player who will decline rapidly in his early 30s. Perhaps he'll be the exception, but if I were a fantasy player I'd be steering a wide berth around Miller on draft day.

Most similar at age: Eric Snow

If that most similar player info doesn't scare you, I don't know what will.

Those 5 players might be about as far away from Andre Miller as you can get. What was he basing his similarities on, body type? Outside of Pack who got destroyed by injuries at the age of 28 not one of them were in the same league as Miller in terms of point guard skills.

don't like this deal at all. nothing against miller or what he brings, but he's not a shooter, and while he can drive, lebron has the ball in his hands nearly all the time. miller's skills would be nice to have even if they went largely unused, but his deal is exactly the type of thing we're trying to rid ourselves of. is miller better then what we have talent wise? of course? but is he worth his deal or enough to put us over the top and justify the bad deal? i don't think so.

patience is a virtue. we've waited this long to have some flexibility. we're right on the brink of being able to move some of these bad deals. there is no reason to dump AV out of frustration. he continues to have no leverage. we can only outflank ourselves at this point.

The problem is that teams would do just like they did when Snow was our starting PG and leave him wide open on the perimeter. LeBron would still be getting double and triple teamed and Miller would just be a better version of Snow out there.

I guess if you had a lineup of shooters with LeBron and Miller it would work, but can you really see something like
Miller
Jones
Gibson
Pavlovic
LeBron
or
Miller
Jones
Gibson
LeBron
Z
???

Miller to me would just be compounding the problem, but if he's all we can get and if its at the right price, I suppose you have to do it.

Pavlovic would thrive playing along side Miller. His game is perfectly suited for Miller. Hughes on the other hand.... well I guess we don't have to worry about that. Hughes would only play 25 games anyways.

not one of them were in the same league as Miller in terms of point guard skills.

Perhaps you are only thinking for the Snow that the Cavs got from Philly, not Snow when he was still with Philly. If you look up the assists per shot attempt and assists per 40 minutes, Snow and Miller are not that far apart at the same age. When you adjust for the slower pace that Snow plays at, it's pretty much a dead heat statistically as far as the comon status used to rate PG's. Miller's a better rebounder and shooter, but those will likely be the next things that Miller will lose.

If the Cavs can trade Snow and Jones to get Miller, sure, no problem. I'd take it. At this point though, I don't know if the Cavs can spare Ira Newble until the front court situation resolves.

Pavlovic would thrive playing along side Miller.

Are you serious? Pavlovic with Miller is like a welcome mat at the foul line for speedy guards.

I'm not basing anything on per 40. I'm basing on watching both players. Miller has superior court vision and knows how to run a team. Snow knows how to make an entry pass and not turn the ball over. Thats the extent of his point guard abilities.

While all those players are "similar" to Miller, most of them are not as good as Miller, and I don't think even one of them was better. There really isn't much risk unless we decide to extend him. He'll be just 31 years old next season with a nice fat $10m expiring contract we can try to move if he's not contributing.
