Andre Miller/Possibilities?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
First, from my POV, Miller CAN score at the rim, something the likes of Larry and Snow CANT do.

As for surrounding Lebron w/ shooters, etc, how do we know this is the best course of action? It seems like our strategy, but I would like to spice it up. Getting lebron, Sasha, Larry, and Boobie off the ball sounds like a good thing. Miller also pushes the ball at a much better tempo then anyone we have. He is a good rebounder and gets his teams on the move quickly. That should greatly benefit Drew, Larry, Lebron, Sasha, and maybe even Cedric.

Anyone who wouldn't give Ira and Damon up for Miller is crazy. Even if he is washed up it at least exposes Boobie to another experienced guard who can possibly help his distribution. And it barely affects our cap situation.

Basically, we have one player on our flawed roster who makes others better, Lebron. W/ Miller we would have two players who make others better. I see that as a vast improvement.

My interest in Miller depends on what we'd have to give up. I think he'd make us a better team. If at the very least he should be able to help hold down the fort while we get Lebron some rest. We could have him out there with Z and some shooters and let him distribute the ball.

Andre Miller is better than any PG we have right now and would allow LBJ to play off the ball more. That in itself is worth looking at a mutually beneficial trade with Philly. If it involved a sign and trade with AV, great! Get him out of Brazil straight to Philly where he can feel respected.

Like a lot of other posters, I'd be interested in Miller if the cost wasn't too high. He would help but there are signs he might be starting to fade a little and he doesn't really help spread the floor for the Cavs. Perimeter shooting is still important for this team. I've always been an Andre Miller fan but with his game, his age, and this current Cavs roster he isn't the ideal fit. Still would take him if the price was right.

I think I would prefer going after a younger, cheaper PG alternative like Jarrett Jack or Delonte West.

Well, if you think Miller could be had for Newble and Jones, you obviously take him. That seems just the teeniest bit unrealistic to me though. If he is such a solid PG, the market is surely higher than a small expiring and a one dimensional back up small.

Maybe I'm off base, but with the way the offense is operating, I think a 30 year old PG who can't shoot the ball very well is pretty far down on the list of needs.

Edit: If that 30+ year old PG who isn't the greatest shooter turns out being Kidd instead, I retract these statements.

I'd give them Snow/Newble/Brown for him instead.

Well, sure, if Miami offers Jason Williams, that'd trump our offer because Williams expires this year, but in either case the attraction for the Sixers isn't what they get in return, but what they clear up in cap space that they can spend on a free-agent in the off season. If we offer them Anderson, then he basically becomes the free-agent they acquire.

On the flip side we have to consider the luxury tax ramifications. Trading Ira+Jones costs us nearly $2m in cap space, on the other hand, sign & trading Andy and taking back Miller would cost us $9.3m. It may be what it takes to get the deal done if the Sixers really want Andy, but it would cost us way too much for a player who already costs way too much. Same is true for any Sacramento deals where we send AV over there to entice them to send Bibby back to us.

Is Miller worth more? Douglar made the case for why he's not. His value is pretty low at the moment. We'd be hoping he has more left in the tank then he's shown so far, or else he becomes a very expensive backup point for the next year until we can trade him as an expiring. Considering our depth problems, that's not all bad. Afterall, would you rather have Andre Miller on the bench in exchange for a $2m cap hit this season -or- Earl Boykins in exchange for a $3-$4m cap hit?

Andre Miller has been one of the most consistent players in the league averaging 14 points, 7 assists, four rebounds per game and shooting 45 percent year after year.

Miller was a very consistant player, but that is expected to come to an end in the near future. He might recover and start playing at his past level again later in this season once he gets into rhythm. He might not. However for the first part of this season, Miller's assists and trips to the free throw line are way down from his career averages. Those are signs that he can't beat his man off the dribble anymore and can't get speration to create shots for others like he used to. In otherwords, he's playing like a short guard with no outside shot who is looking at his 31st birthday in the rear view mirror. He could make a decent backup PG for Cleveland, but he's not showing the defense, play creation, or efficient scoring needed to displace any of the Cavs starters right now.

Bibby or Jason Williams are better guard options IMHO, but finding a decent big man to give depth to the front court rotation is a much more important issue right now than adding another guard to the team.

Amen to that if you're talking about the Miller's, Bibby's and William's of the world. If you're talking about someone of Calderon's age and ability, it's another story.

Jason Williams is not a better PG than Miller.

Miller would be great. He is a pure play maker. He is just below Kidd and Nash in that category. He isn't a great outside shooter, but Gibson, Pavlovic, Jones, Lebron, Devin Brown and (maybe) Marshall have that in their aresenal. Also, we have this Nichols kid waiting in the wings. Sure, having a shooter at point gaurd would be nice but Miller fills the playmaker role which I think is way more critical. Miller can also fill it up in a way most our other players can't. He can get in the lane.

Also, Miller is great at alley-oop plays and getting atheletic big men great looks. When he was in Denver, he just spent all day tossing passes to Melo, Camby, Nene and Kenyon. Lebron would benefit from that. Sasha would benefit from that. Gooden would benefit from that. I would bet you suddenly see Simmons and Dwayne Jones start putting up easy points for the simple fact that they have the atheleticism.

Plus, we can finally get Hughes out of the freaking playmaker/shooter role he has been stuck in and get him penetrating.

Good lord we need a point gaurd so badly it isn't even funny. Give Philly AV, Newble and Shannon Brown. Philly gets two young players with loads of potential and small expiring contract. We get a playmaker that will get Lebron easy looks all day long.

I have said this so many times its not funny.... But here goes.

Why so so many of you want so badly to take the ball out of Lebron James hands? There are only maybe 10 players in the entire game I would take Lebron James off the ball for. Lebron is averaging a triple double the past four or five games. He is one of the greatest playmakers in the game, a big part of his game is being a passer.

Guys like Miller, Boykins and some others that have been mentioned here. Those are solid guys, they would be great running the second unit.

We need to get the best Guard or Foward that we can get, period. LBJ should have the ball in his hands until the defense makes him give it up. Then he should be getting the ball to capable guys.

We need to stop thinking Boykins, Miller and Scola, and start thinking Iguadala, Brand, Okafor, etc.

We can package up our expirings with AV if he doesnt come back and get a real player in return. Not Dre Miller. :puke:

We dont need over the hill players with bad contracts, we have several of those already. We need to make a deal for a real player using our expiring bad contracts.

Why? Because averaging 8 apg as a team is not acceptable. If we want to be at an elite level we should be averaging well over 20 apg. so give LeBron 7-10 apg, big deal? There's still 10+ for other players to pick up.

I'm all for that. It's just hard to think big after a summer when our biggest acquisition was Devin Brown.

Im thinking there has GOT to be SOMETHING brewing over there.... Ferry has to make some sort of move somewhere.

If the team keeps winning it gives Ferry the luxury of being patient. Hopefully his philosophy doesnt backfire. Some seem to think it already has....

I think a deal like of Newble/Jones for Dre Miller makes perfect sense for both parties. The 76ers are clearly rebuilding and would like as much cap room as they can get for this summer, which will feature the best free agent class in years. Newble gives them an extra 3 million off there cap for next summer, Damon another 3 or 4 (can't remember) the summer after. They basically would be getting a 3 million dollar cap space advance on Miller, which they can use to get the big dollar player of there choice, since they're looking to be the only team with any substancial cap room next summer.

The cavs get rid of two cold bodies on there bench and replace them with a starter that can help drive the offense. It also gives them an open roster spot that can be used to bring in an aged free agent big man. If just Jones/Newble doesn't do it for the sixers, throw in Shannon brown. That's either another mil off their cap for this summer or a young player with potential that they could sign for cheap and bring along for the rebuild.
