I don't know if I will have the same issues if I play against another actual player online. But in that scenario, I'm a lot more worried about the lag. I think I would really enjoy playing The Park and Pro Am. But I still don't want to go through the grind and there is no way I'm spending a lot of money on VC to make it happen. 2k should be giving me money back if anything. I don't particularly enjoy My Career, never have. So quite a conundrum there. I've played MyTeam, but you don't get VC from it, and I like MyTeam except for the fact the MT you do get never goes a long way. The packs are so freakin expensive and the odds you get a good player is very low it's likely all the time getting MT is for nothing. And the fact you don't get VC means all that time doesn't help you a bit in MyCareer so it is always pick and choose and about impossible to be good at both. It is probably smarter to just buy players with the MT, but for the really good ones that you actually want to play with, that is impossible. This game caters to the cheaters or people who buy everything with real money.
Even the times I like to mess around in MyGm, it has problems that make the game so much less enjoyable. My main one, players complaining about their role on the team every 2 weeks, and then you have to baby them and change their role. Whether you do or don't, it always effs team chemistry in the process. Because then someone else will complain. Which results in many more losses. Which results in failing goals (and there is always a goal chemistry based). And the player that complains is always someone that isn't that good which makes it worse. I usually just trade them on the spot, but then someone else always takes that place. It has nothing to do with real personalities, just random crap you can't escape. I started one yesterday, it happened in like the first two weeks, I got so pissed I just deleted the whole file. It is annoying. I've swore I've turned off team chemistry in the past and it didn't matter. Maybe this year you can turn that off, I will have to look closer into it.
TL;DR: 2k has made all of their game modes a pain in the ass and more trouble than they are worth.
