2018 Cleveland Browns Off Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
With the picks we have and where they are placed, what has been the saying here the past couple of weeks? Don't get cute.

Take the QB #1. Take whoever the fuck you want at #4. They are going to be an impact player right away. Why trade back 8 spots, possibly miss on ALL of them? Who's to say one of the teams from #5-7 would actually take our deal? I sure as hell don't want to trade back to #8, then have to give up a fucking kings ransom to move back up. That would be the dumbest shit. Let's not forget we have a shit ton of picks after that. We can easily trade back INTO the 1st round, if we so choose.

Don't get cute w/#1 & #4.

I'm in the don't get cute crowd. Take your QB, and take your gamechanger at #4. Browns literally cannot fuck this up. It's right there.

Well... to be fair, they can take the "wrong" QB and fuck the entire thing up. I'm excited that this draft can turn things around, but also half expecting this to be the case.

Chubb on one side and Garrett on the other gives me a Chubb just thinking about it. You are talking a dominating defensive line for a long time. Oh yeah and don't forget Ogbah either. Browns please do it.

Not everyone is as blessed as me, but personally it gives me a Chubb 2 Myles long.

You all have talked me into Chubb at #4. I've given up all hopes and dreams of getting Barkley, even though I do think he's going to be right in the league with Bell, Johnson, Elliott, Gurley, etc. VERY quickly. I've just accepted it's not happening.

Since they're hellbent on taking a QB #1, just don't fuck it up please. Take any of them, just don't fuck it up. Snag Chubb at #4 and try to snag a CB (or two) with the second rounders.

I'm still a huge Fitzpatrick fan as well, and wouldn't lose any sleep if he makes his way into our fourth pick.

While I agree, the reason the NFL draft has esculated from something a few fat guys did with a scribbled notebook in a smoky room to a major media event is that it isn't that simple.

Different offensive systems have different values on quarterback skills. If this were 2016, the choice would be easier: Oh you have a top two pick? Take one of the quarterbacks who will start the next decade. Browns amazingly screwed that one up, but it wasn't as nuanced as picking the best guy out of five possible starters for the next decade.

As for impact player at #4, that is an even bigger debate. Just look at the ten rookies who broke some kind of record last year:

How many players on that list were not heavily discussed by Browns fans this time last year?

I know you're bummed on Barkley, but I think we're witnessing a very real scenario where Derrius Guice falls to #33. If he gets through #16 (Baltimore) there's a run of teams not shopping in the first-round RB market.

Many thought Guice was the best RB in this class heading into the season--he and Barkley were neck and neck--and he's been very solid in athletic testing. He's battled injury all year in 2017, but his film is off the charts in 2016. He's every bit as explosive and elusive as Barkley, but he also has that "I'll flat out run you over" attitude, too.

He's the best back in this class.

The difference is, with him, we may be able to add him to Chubb and our franchise quarterback instead of either/or.

Man... Garrett, Ogbah and Chubb rotating on the outside with Ogunjobi in the middle... all on rookie contracts. That's scary

I'm at the point where it's almost a no brainer that it should be:

1) QB (Darnold or Rosen)
4) Chubb (assuming NYG dont take him)

If the Giants take him then you look at trading down a few spots or taking Minkah/Ward at #4.

Pass rusher is the second most important position other than QB, so why not take the best one in this class by a mile if you can. Garrett could/should be great, but he also has injury concerns. Ogbah is a good player, but will he ever be great? I don't know... the more I think about this the easier becomes to take Chubb at #4 and call it a day IMO.

With as many holes as the browns have i dont think its worth investing the number 4 overall pick to take thd 2nd DE slot from good to potentionally very good

Edit especially when there is a potentionally very good/great DB availible

At most positions I would agree, but at the second most important position I just don't think you can rest on just Garrett/Ogbah/Chris Smith. Especially when Garrett and Ogbah both had injury plagued years. The Browns need to take the BPA, and to be honest I don't think their holes outside of the secondary are THAT glaring. Not to mention Chubb along with Garrett should make even an average secondary look good. There isn't a LT or DT worth taking top 5. No RB is worth taking top 5 when you have Hyde/Duke and can get one just as good in the middle rounds. So, yeah... give me Chubb. I won't be sad about Minkah or Ward, but I just don't think the value is as good.

Chubb at #4 with Garrett definitely gives me a Chubb too. Add the franchise QB.....

You can think whatever you want, but the key here is what John Dorsey wants the roster to look like. Heres that positional value pyramid again:

If primary edge rusher is in the second tier and shares it with left tackle (we don't have one) and primary corner (we don't have one) then let's not be too confident he is filling the fourth tier second edge rusher with the #4 pick. Let's see how it plays out.

I’m with Chubb !!! Get my QB at #1 and get my QB killa at #4

I am starting to agree if we stay at 4, get Chubb.

At 275, we might see Ogbah play some inside, so that opens up DE some. Further, Chubb is a notch above Ward and Minkah as far as prospect level goes. Either Chubb or Nelson rate out as A prospects, as Minkah and Ward are A-. Getting a 2nd elite talent DE will end up being devastating. D-line really has become the most important position on the field.
