Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm generally of the opinion that if you are "ruined" by playing too early after being a 4 year starter in college surrounded by a team that has invested heavily in their offensive line, with 2 pro bowl receivers, and one of the best receiving backs in the NFL then you probably were never worth the #1 overall pick in the first place

This isn't a Tim Couch situation. I get starting Taylor, but not sure why we would treat Mayfield as we would have Darnold here. He was either the most or second most pro ready QB in the draft.

Goff should not have started year 1 at all.

Each situation is different. Saying a guy should start because he was the #1 pick has no bearing. You do what is best for the development of the player.

I think Goff was fine to start year 1 and even if he wasn't it was clear this year it didn't ruin him

the real problem was Jeff Fisher is about the single last person you want developing a young QB. He's a cunt bag and stuck in the year 1974. If McVay was the coach for Goff's rookie year I doubt it's even half as bad as it was

When was the last time a #1 overall QB didn't start at least 1 game his rookie year? I can't even recall.

You do what’s best for the success of the team.

Yeah, I think Goff would have been fine with a better coach, which is why he looked so much better in year two right from the start. It wasn't that everything just suddenly clicked. It was that he had a coach who played to his strengths and knew how to structure an offense.

Unfortunately, our coach might actually be worse than Jeff Fisher.

He’s 23 and you act like God blessed him with a golden dick.

But we’re going to throw out a 30 something with a career 66 QB rating?

Hard pass.

If the Browns are starting Drew Stanton over Mayfield at any point, something is terribly wrong.

Stanton will play before Mayfield this season without a doubt not gonna lie. Mayfield isn't going to be starting as a rookie as long as Taylor and Stanton are healthy. Now year two Stanton is the backup if Mayfield is ready.

I would be happy to bet you money that this isn't the case.

And I say that without a doubt, not even gonna lie!

I’ll take th RCF bet.

Terms are as follows.

If Tyrod Taylor is unable to make a start at any point in the 2018 season, Baker Mayfield will start over Drew Stanton if he’s healthy.

Starting is the key here. If Taylor gets hurt on snap 1 of game 1 and they go to Stanton, that isn’t a start.

Also if Mayfield gets injured in mop up duty or practice and is listed as OUT on the injury report, that voids the terms.

$50 to RCF?

Let's wait until year 4 to solidy our answer.

Fair, but I just don't think they're good comparisons to begin with. That's why I said it. He may or may not succeed, but I don't believe his game will manifest itself in the shape of either of those two guys.

Deal

This is also void if Mayfield WINS the job outright.
