LeBron James Jr.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Apparently California has a state rule that says 8th graders are not allowed to play varsity hoops.

So Bronny is going to shit on a bunch of junior varsity kids (6th-7th-8th graders I assume) this school year before moving up to the varsity next year.

I was actually wondering if he would go straight to varsity as a freshman. I would assume so but I think that is a school with a lot of good players who play some good competition.

He definitely should at least, just for growth alone. He might not get a ton of PT or put up great stats, but the learning experience and playing against older competition is more important imo (can players play both JV and V?). Anyway, that experience will pay off big as a junior and senior.

In Ohio a player can play a maximum of 5 quarters in one day. This can be distributed among freshman, junior varsity, or varsity. (2.1.1.6 of OHSAA Handbook)

In California a player can only play in one classification (Varsity, JV, Frosh, Frosh/Soph) per day. (CIF Central Section Basketball Rule 2.8. Not sure if the same for Southern Section.)

Bronny looking good but he's 14 and only in 8th grade? Looks like he's playing against 12-13 year old middle schoolers in that video.
Dunking at 14 is real nice though.

Bronny was born Oct 6th, so yes he is "older" for his grade, but started at the right time. My daughter is in 9th grade but a June Birthday, she started her 8th grade year at 13 just like Bronny did.

Bronny started school the exact year he was supposed too.

Most states have that rule, including Ohio. He's not allowed to play JV either, that's also a high school classification.

He's on an 8th grade team playing against 8th graders. No 6th or 7th graders.

Just curious, what state do you live in? Because this is pretty standard. However, I know of a couple states that allow middle schoolers to play varsity.

In the 80's a friend of mine played Varsity basketball in Akron as an 8th grader. He went on to MSU and led them in scoring his Senior year before playing in Europe.

So for sure as a Freshman he should play Varsity as he should probably be playing against Varsity right now if Cali allowed it.

Draft Bronny with a second rounder and stash him in Bulgaria for a few years.

He actually had kind of a breakout game today. 15 points off the bench and probably the biggest play of the game with a clutch steal and finish.

Especially with all the eyes and pressure on him with him only being a freshman who is still just trying to develop. That was very impressive to me. The bright lights affected a lot of his teammates who are older and better than him. They were rushing shots and attacking when they shouldn't. Which is maybe just how a lot of young players play anyway. But Bronny was very under control and made good decisions even in that spotlight. He looked like the best player on the floor today.

That was the first game I've actually watched of him that wasn't just highlights. As his confidence increases, I think it would be good if they gave him more control as a decision maker with the ball instead of always off the ball. That would be good for his development. And team because all of his teammates, and most young talent, are always scorers/score first.

Watching his son at 15, it’s crazy to imagine a 15 year old LeBron being Mr. Ohio and winning state at that age and that was after living in cars and not having a father. Simply amazing.

i think we are also seeing a big reason LeBron went to LA, which is to put Bronny and his other kids in the best situation. He even endured a losing season last year having no idea that an AD was coming to the Show. He’s a great dad. Easy to understand the move through the multiple lenses we see it now.

Bronny looks real athletic.

Sierra Canyon kind of used their "B" team last night, which allowed two things:
1) St. V was actually able to compete
2) They were able to showcase Bronny in his home state even though he's usually like their 8th or 9th man

bronny doesn't pop out athletically yet. Doesn't have his dad's athletic/body profile; he is more like his mother.
