I honestly don't think that you can judge anything about Collin Sexton as an NBA player without giving him a full NBA offseason. The 2nd year leap will be the tell. He'll have April to October to change so many things about his game that he's now discovered as a result of learning on the fly.

If he can extend his range to incorporate a solid 3-point shot, that's the key to opening up so many things for him.

Still, it's disappointing that he seems to be getting worse and worse as the season goes on. I understand that teams have now had a chance to completely scout him and are defending his strengths, but by now he should have been able to get past some of that.

That is what happens to rookies many of the times. They aren't used to this many games, teams adjust to them and they play up and down a lot. We've been spoiled by some of the rookies we HAVE had on our teams. Most of them tend to look a lot like Sexton or worse.

I agree that it is too early to make definitive decisions about Sexton. His three point shooting has already improved. What worries me is how totally lost he is on defense. I have seen no improvement. He just doesn't seem to anticipate what is going on in front of him, whether offense or defense. I am worried about his future ability to be a solid starter. We are just going to need to wait and see.

he is rated as the worst player in the league....look at the list, there are several lottery picks not that far from him...mostly all of them in better situations than he was thrown into

Perfect works we would have had a decent pg in place that would have eased his transition to starting. Hill wasnt it

Glad that delly is here now but wish we would have retained Calderon this year, feel he would have been a big help to sexton

I think some of the reason he looks so bad is because Drew either has a bad feel for the game or is just hell bent on giving Sexton just 30 minutes each game. If you watch Sexton and his break down of his minutes, Drew plays him 8 minutes in each of the first 3 quarters then 6 in the 4th. You can set a timer to when Sexton goes in and out.

I've noticed that Sexton tends to play well in 2 out of the 4 stints but there isn't ever any change to how his minutes are spread out. Drew won't ride Sexton when he is playing well. I think the front office has told Drew to play Sexton at least 30 minutes a game and Drew is unwilling or unable to adjust Sexton's minute during the game to accommodate good and bad play.

This year is a total loss for him and his development. I didn't expect much from him anyways during the trainwreck that is 2018-2019, I was hyped up in summer league though, he had me believing like he'd compete for the All Rookie team ballot..

Shame on me then

It's frustrating that our 8th overall pick that's been starting for a while now is left off the allstar weekend showcase.

However, I do expect a much better and improved 2nd season from him. He needs to learn how to finish and be able to sell the contact at the rim to refs.

Not concerned at all... his progression has gradually taken shape and the biggest struggle has been dealing with the rules on defense. I think playing him heavy minutes is good for his learning curve, and as bad as the team has been being non complimentary to his game and as bad as they have made him look as a result is irrelevant and only helps the tank.
After a full season and off-season the Cavs will have a better idea of what role he will have going forward

Agreed, hopefully, we get a coaching staff that can implement a system and gives this team an identity.

Sexton has always been known for his work ethic and Being labeled worst player in the league will not sit well with him. He will be a different player next year IMO

LBJ always talked about the first game of a series as a feel out game.

Sexton’s first year of his career is a feel out year.

that 2nd year leap will need to be pretty amazing. Right now he looks like he's just a guy. SAG & Mikal Bridges were my picks for the Cavs at that point, and I'm still there. Always beware of the NBA prospect who's best trait per scouts is his "defense" I'm pretty sure that's code for "he's athletic enough to give college guys problems, but he has no real discernible NBA trait or skill set."

A consistent jumper and better feel in the pick and roll would do wonders for him. Not counting him out, but I wonder if the Cavs could have left the Brooklyn pick on the table and gotten Tatum and Terry instead for Irving, or at least Jaylen Brown and Terry.

I didn't know jackshit about him before he was drafted, but I'm pretty sure I didn't read any scouting reports post-draft describing his best trait as "defense".

Everything I saw said his best trait was "scoring". And saying he was fast and aggressive as hell on offense.

I don't think it's a total loss. All players seem to have an adjustment time for the game to slow down for them. I think we are seeing the game just slow down for Cedi. I don't think it has slowed down for Sexton yet. Just getting those games under his belt will help him.

Also Delly has been working with him and getting Delly at least gives Sexton someone to work with. At least Koby figured out that the coaching staff wasn't going to cut it.

I'm hoping the game will slow down for him by the end of the season so he can make the most of his summer to add to his game.
