The Travel Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If/when the shutdown ends, I recommend TSA Pre-Screening.

Shutdown or no Shutdown (I flew last week, got through in a minute), it omits the need for lines.

For anybody traveling internationally, get Global Entry, which includes TSA precheck. It's much easier to get through USA immigration with it. No lines, even going into Newark.

Yep...I was in the regular line longingly looking at the empty queue in the Global Entry line.

I'm going to be traveling a lot more for work now so I thought about getting TSA precheck.

Is it really worth it? I've heard you have to interview and have references/etc.

I got TSA precheck years ago ($85) -- best money I ever spent. Saves time and you don't have to remove shoes, belt etc.

I later got Global Entry which also includes Precheck. Highly recommend that as well if you travel outside the country.

I did TSA and Global Entry. Definitely worth the money if you travel a ton. It’s good for I believe 5 years. Spread the cost over the time period and it’s practially nothing. Nice going through security a little quicker and not taking off your shoes and belt. As for the “interview”, my experience is it was a joke. Scheduled the appointment and the guy pretty much just asked a few questions from my application to confirm answers and done. I don’t remember any reference related items.

Just got back from Germany. Don't have precheck or global entry, but I ate this schnitzel that was stuffed with sauerkraut and it was sooooo good.

Question: we will be staying in an Airbnb in Denver in a few months, and the house does not have internet/WiFi.

Besides using our phones as hotspots, has anyone come across a good service that rents reliable wireless hotspots that aren’t severely data capped?

I looked at Skyroam which rents hotspots with “unlimited” data for $9 per day, but after 500mb per day you get throttled down to unusable speeds.

Need WiFi for media mostly when we’re at the place and not quite sure how to go about it.

Anybody ever go to Stockholm?

There is a conference in my field that I am considering going to. I get a $1500 a year budget to pursue continuing education, and my work anniversary is in July, so I can spend $1500 on something before that date and parts of $1500 after. It can be a mostly free trip. It could maybe be a week. Is it worth the trip?

My brother loved sweden... especially in July..

I book through expedia mostly, like 95% of the time. I am not loyal to any airline, whatever gets me A to B the fastest and cheapest. Although I have been flying SouthWest a lot more lately

Anyone have Global Entry? I got conditionally approved but now must schedule an interview. Only problem is apparently the Cleveland branch has no open spots for the next two years even though I have a year to get an interview scheduled. Really don’t feel like taking time off or traveling around for this.

Check Pittsburgh. I got GE from there before there was a Cleveland branch.

I have it. Did my interview in Detroit on a return from Toronto.. there was no one in the customs line, so I asked the guy if there was someone there who could do my interview. He said he could do it if I had the time.. took me back to an office asked a few questions and signed me off.. so if you travel a bunch check at the airport if you have a decent layover
