What do people obsessively collect?

Anyone obsessed with watches?

I collect globes. I have them all over my house. I like the look, but love the fact the are a giant photograph of the world the day they were made. I have new ones, old ones, all types, my oldest is about 60 years.

Do you have one of those fancy stone globes with semi-precious stone inlay for the countries?

I've always wanted one of those.

Dolls. I have a collection of roughly 1600 dolls last I counted. Haven’t gone through inventory in a while..

Movie posters. Not the ones you see at the theater, rather rare artistic interpretations or old classics in different languages. I have everything from old Godard posters that were hung in Yugoslavian theaters, to Twin Peaks prints that were showcased at a gallery in Austin earlier this month. Don't have close to the wall space for everything anymore, but keep collecting and rotating them in and out.

I get a rush from ripping down and taking signs from bars and other venues. They're all paper so its not like I'm stealing valuable pieces. See below:

The Earth is flat. Invest in maps

No, my favorite is an old early 60's light up floor globe.

My ex threw out a couple she didn't like because they were older and not in perfect shape, so that is annoying, but I have probably around 20 globes right now

Freshman year of college I took a bunch of posters from various places. One for example was one hung up at the dorm mail boxes that said "Theft is everyone's problem" so obviously I had to take that one.

Anyways, one day my counselor comes in to talk Browns Football (he was from Cleveland) and asked me "Hey, where did you get that McDonald's poster?" I looked him in the face with a smile and replied "Burger King".

Anyways, of course I was written up, but I was pretty proud of that one, lol.

I went to OU and in the middle of the night I took a crow bar and pried the Shively Hall plaque from the brick wall. I believe it's still in my parents basement.

Old literature text books.. its fascinating to see what we think of as good writing as it has changed over time..

And Vonnegut books.. i have all i know about, and one signed by the old asshole himself!

While I think your old text books are a waste of time, the Vonnegut is awesome.

Which book?

Happy Birthday Wanda June. ( His only play, i believe)

My wife surprised me with tickets to see him speak for my birthday, and i was wholly unprepared.. so when i saw he was signing books, i bought the only one i did not already have.. a laughed when I saw the asshole in his signature..

It was a hilarious talk by the way.

And as for old textbooks, you should try it. They contain what people thought was literature at the time.. i have one called Modern English Prose dated 1906.. it has excerpts from what they thought was model prose at the time. I believe it was an American text because it includes mostly American Authors..

One of them has Teddy Roosevelts speech after he was shot... one has Mark Twains story about the lindburger cheese on the train.. it brings me to tears laughing..
