2019 Around the MLB

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
little girl that was hit was 4 years old, and was taken to the hospital.

apparently she was awake goign to the hospital but is going to be okay

Cool moment by Almora after the game.

Discussing how he’s going to remain in contact with the family and have a relationship with him for the rest of his life.

He and Bregman were teammates back to when they were 16 on Team USA (which I was fortunate enough to travel with as well), you can bet he will be involved as well with regards to the well being of the family.

Great, great people.

Question. Did Gio Urshela ever show any kind of hitting potential in the minors? I know with us he was known for his glove, but his hitting, not so much. He didnt do anything with Toronto either. What he us doing in NY this year just has me scratching my head.

He is a gold glove caliber 3B, but he always had some holes in his swing, and who knows maybe he just needed to be with the right person to help him fix the issues or he is just fluky/lucky right now and he is just riding it like the yankees are. I cannot see him staying that high with the batting average at the end of the day, but he is what the yankees need right now.

Fuck fuck fuck.

I'm at a bar watching Astros Cubs. A very small child/baby was hit by a line drive foul.

Players were emotionally shaken and mother ran up stands with the kid......

Fuck fuck fuck

Saw the story this morning. Albert Amora Jr was crying and took almost 10 minutes to resume the at-bat. The catcher was kneeled over too.

Between innings Albert was hugging the security guard after he checked on her and still shaken. They need to extend nets like in Japan.

In an interview he said after he fouled the ball he locked eyes with the girl and then she got hit. He kept thinking about his 2 sons, and wants to have a relationship for life with the girl.

We forget sometimes these athletes are human, how horrible of a situation.

Almora is one of my favorite non-Indians in baseball.

Furthermore, with such a great generation of baseball players who are legitimately awesome people, WHAT THE FUCK IS THE MLB DOING?! It's impossible that they do not promote their own stars. Fucking awful, actually.

Big part of the reason I’d never go back.

No vision. Many of the brightest people I worked with moved into other sports as well if they do still work in a pro sports environment.

Just curious, who does that fall on? How can MLB get their shit together?

Commish on down.

The best advanced media in the game with a bunch of old white traditional baseball guys to make the decisions.

No connection with Youth sports, or how to market to youth.

They had Mike Trout out there in a disco costume around opening day in a sponsorship bit.

None of their marketable guys are ever seen modeling some excellent fashion. No real effective sponsorship with equipment either.

The NBA shows LeBron and Westbrook walking in with Versace, NFL Network shows Tyrod Taylor slinging a Goyard travel trunk with a dope suit on.

MLB has clubhouse post game video of Trout from the neck up in a t-shirt.

It’s trash.

Woof that does sound like a mess. Especially when you have the best player in the game in a fucking disco outfit.

Wait, so the fashion actually plays a role in marketing dudes?

Think about how much effect Russell Westbrook and LeBron have had on our culture as fashion icons.

There’s a reason NFL and NBA video these guys coming into the arena for every game now.

Where has MLB been in such an effort?

Think about the affect on Hispanic culture that someone like Francisco Lindor could have being a spokesman for the products he wears into the stadium and in the post game presser.

The in depth ways other leagues have figured out ways to market themselves have become commonplace, whereas MLB lags woefully behind in even trying this stuff because it’s non traditional.

Guys like DWade have been able to create their own fashion brands as a result.

They’re major players in Americana, not just sports. That relationship is transferable to how they view the league as well.

In the NFL, think about Baker Mayfield at the Kentucky Derby. Dude wore a bright suit with a number of other well dressed NFL guys.

When is the last time you saw an MLB player even wearing an outfit that wasn’t anything you’d wear to the grocery store?

Those other organizations are just flat out better at turning their athletes into celebrities. They took the lead from Europe on how to market athletes as sex symbols.

And it shows in how many followers they have and what each players social media looks like.

Shit man, I’ve never even thought of that. Come to think of it, I rarely see the players outside the games. I’ve seen Trout shown maybe twice outside of a game, and he was just wearing a hoodie.

Oh man, there's entire instagram accounts dedicated solely to what these guys are wearing. Most of it completely ridiculous, but still . . .

I guess I just didn’t think about it, obviously I noticed it. Crazy to see JR Smith (not a knock against him) has like 2 million more followers than Trout. Obviously something very wrong with the marketing for MLB.

CarGo going to Cubs now. Good luck with that

I mean sometimes it is nice as a celebrity to get the peace and quiet, so no one knowing who you are is nice in a way, which is why some people may not push for their name everywhere in the nation, so there is that factor as well from the human side, but at the same time certain guys probably would love the roles and could be very good people to use to help promote the sport and everything like that. It is a gentleman's game with a little more puritan aspects to it in nature, but they do need to change some with the times and take volunteer guys/big contract guys to help promote the game and everything like that.

Anytime I run into Kosta Koufos i treat him like a classmate/friend and just ask how are things etc, aka just treat him like a fellow human being. I have served famous athletes in real life (Joe Montana, Dan Marino) and I think they enjoyed the fact they had a meal without people lollygagging them and bothering them. Fame has its issues too, but can baseball find players who are completely okay with that fame and allow them to be faces, heck yeah, but do they at all? No
