People say he is slight, but he seems thick for a shorter guy to me. I see a frame that can fill out a bit. I just don't see him as super skinny not strong, what do you think?

I think his frame can put on weight, but as of right now, he's built rather slightly.

Collin has been working this offseason to extend his 3pt distance and practicing in the gym relentlessly. And he has been making more and more as he continues to practice.

I say Collin will have a step up in his second season.

If he can navigate the pick and roll better he will be really dangerous.

I'd like to see defensive progress

If he can be a three point sniper, get to the rim, and play average to above average defense, does the lack of facilitating not matter?

I mean he would be Kyrie without the crazy handle, but slightly worse passing and hopefully better defense.

That's still an allstar guard

I really like Collin and am looking forward to seeing him develop going forward, but he is a LONG way from being an average defender.

Could this be a product of the defensive system the Cavs had in place? also, Curry is not a good defender either but the warrior's team defense makes up for it.

Given the improvement & hard work we saw and heard about. I have no doubt in my mind Collin will improve where needed.

We had the worst defensive coach in the league the past few years. He has given effort on that end. He needs to learn NBA defense. He didn't make much progress this past year. Cedi went from being a slightly plus defender to a very negative one. You can't evaluate anyone on the team until probably the end of next year. Delly and Nwaba were the only ones to make any impact on defense. Love when he was there.

Collin is probably going to be limited somewhat by his size on D, but I don't think he is a lazy defender and that is very good.

I am confident in two things when it comes to Sexton. He’ll play with great effort offensively and he can put the ball in the hoop.

The two things I want to see next year...

1. Can he make plays for others/play without blinders with the ball in his hands?

Far too often last year the ball would simply stop once it got into his hands and the only outcome would be Collin taking a shot. Chalk it up to whatever you want; bad teammates, no offensive plays being run, inexperience, etc. Sexton simply didn’t show a lot vision or innate feel as a passer.

Now he did show the ability to get buckets, which is a lot better than not making shots, but at his size and with his defensive limitations he’s going to have to dramatically improve as a playmaker for others if he’s going to remain a starter as the primary on the ball lead guard. There aren’t many 6’2” starting shooting guards out there for a reason.

2. Can he improve at all as a defender?

This one isn’t as important as No. 1 because if Sexton were to become a really high end playmaker AND continue to be a 40% 3PT shooter then you just live with weak defense because he’d be such a plus offensively. Problem is that Sexton wasn’t just weak defensively, he was one of the worst defensive players in the entire NBA.

Assuming he’s NOT going to develop into a high end playmaker (and it would be truly unprecedented if he did frankly given where he’s started), then he can’t also be a bottom of the barrel defender on top of that. He has to at least get to passable if he wants to remain a starter on a good team.

The problem is that Collin looks lost when he's not defending on the ball. His on ball defense was weak but serviceable. He needs to become a decent off ball/team defender in order to be effective when he's on the court.

This is describing 90% of rookies. Shai coming in this year as a competent NBA defender is amazing. Who else did that? Courtney Lee? Kawhi? It's usually older multiyear college guys or guys drafted for D.

I think it's more likely Sexton embraces moving the ball, but as a product of the offense being oriented around ball movement than any type of vision from Sexton. Averaging 5/game seems obtainable just by making the extra pass.

Weren't you the one talking about how Sexton is physically limited on defense earlier in the year? I may be mistaken.

Sexton just needs to be passable in one or both areas. His speed in transition, three point shooting, and ability to get to the rim guarantees him a shot of being 6moty regularly if that's how his career goes, everything else is just gravy.

I'm going to make a guess here and state that he improves on defense based on his work ethic alone (He ball watched, got lost on switches and got caught on mismatches too often but made less of those mistakes throughout the season.

His assist numbers will magically improve once he has better teammates similar to Fox. Unlike Fox, who is a better passer albeit more flare than substance at times, he doesn't have the luxury of having elite shooters like Bogdanovic, Bjelica and Hield to generate easy assists, however, he just needs to make the easy reads at the rim (dump downs, lobs) that he missed last season and he'll be a 6 apg even with putrid shooters around him. I'm hoping Koby addresses shooting with the 26th pick if we intend to keep it.

I know that seems like a tall task but there were discussions about whether or not he had ONE skill at some point last season and he's come a long way since.

If Garland is still available at 5, you take him. He has star PG potential. Sexton can be a SG. That combo, although on the small side, would be a nightmare to defend.
