I would only trade him if its a no brainer deal for the cavs. You have to wonder when the cavs would be able to attract a veteran of
Love's stature in future free agency,,,might be a few years at least.

Yeah if you get a home run do it, but trading a dollar for 4 quarters still applies even when we are bad. I enjoyed every game they played last year that Love played.

I mena now that the odds are flattened, we don't have to watch 18 wins for the next 4 years to have a shot at a some good picks.

Cedi and Collin clearly were both helped by Love's presence. I believe the same will hold true for this years pick.

Having a player better than your punk 19 year olds is a good idea. They have to be humble and they have a better player on the team that they can see their professionalism and hard work. I just think it is more valuable than what we can get for him.

Yes it is on the coach, but ask Kawhi if Duncan had any effect on him, or if the Admiral had any effect on Duncan. I think it is attitude as much as anything that can help these kids.

Kevin can be a cultural piece and help the team develop the right way with the right habits. I'd like him to retire a Cav. It will shine a nice light on the team as well.

I don’t know about Love being a ‘cultural piece,’ but if Mark Price, who was arguably as popular as any Cav ever, can be traded then Love certainly can.

I don’t really know how much of an effect Love had on the development of Collin Sexton or Osman. The great thing about Sexton is he is self motivated and perhaps the hardest worker on the team. In terms of Osman, I think being around Lebron for a year, and observing his work ethic, was a huge for him.

Apparently you’re willing to forfeit the Cavs’ 2020 first round pick to Atlanta and that’s not much of a concern to you. If the Cavs can wait one more year then that pick becomes two second round picks in 2021. For a small market team, like the Cavs, that will always have to build through the draft rather than free agency, first round picks are gold. Losing a lottery pick would be disastrous to the rebuild.

Do you really think this team makes the playoffs next year? Which playoff team will they be better than?

I could see the year after next

They don’t have to make the playoffs to lose that pick. Since that pick is only top 10 protected, they can miss the playoffs and, if their pick ends up 11th-14th, it goes to Atlanta.

I’m assuming the Cavs will be better this year, the question is how much better? We saw this year how, with the new lottery odds, 2 better teams jumped over 6 teams with worse records and the Lakers jumped all the way up from 11th.

Give coach a tank year. Let him teach his system, get a star player, and not lose the pick.

Also the Cavs have no one on the roster that has shown they can even play as a stretch 4. If they coaching staff had taken the season to mold Nance to a stretch 4 and he was clearly down that developmental path, maybe we could feel more comfortable moving Love. Sadly Nance really didn't show enough to be a stretch 4.

I think the organization has learned from 2010-2014 and having big holes in the roster doesn't help develop talent. Love might not be the ideal build/body for a stretch 4 in today's game but his overall offensive game is what a team would want and it helps so much with spacing. I just don't think they will decide to move him until they have more shooting at PF and Center to compensate for losing Love. The game has evolved to needing 3 point shooting at all 5 positions. Having both PF and Center void of any real 3 point shooting threats is just something no team can build upon in the modern NBA.

The Cavs are in a rebuild, so expecting them to be a complete team and to have all the pieces in place probably isn’t realistic. Not every team has a stretch-4. It’s a position that can be developed and Nance showed some increased range on his jumper.

My issue with Love being a poor fit on this roster are for the following reasons:

1) his age- at 31, Love isn’t long for a rebuild. By the time this team is ready to compete again, Love will be well past his prime and he may not even be an effective player anymore.
2) his propensity for injuries- virtually every season of his career, Love has been plagued with some sort of injury. Unless he finds the fountain of youth, this is likely to only get worse with age.
3) his contract- this also ties into 1 & 2 above. If we have an old, overpaid, injury prone forward, it wilL be next to impossible to move him in a trade.

For a multitude of reasons, I think the Cavs would be wise to cash in this asset and get what they can for him now, while he still has some value.

Yeah they would have to have at min the 7th worst record and have 4 teams jump them. That's the worst case scenario. I doubt they jump that much.

I'm not saying they need to be a complete team but they need to have spacing and guys that are playable at every position for the development of the young players. Right now Love is our only real PF for the modern NBA.

I'm not against trading him during the season or even before the season starts if we have someone or a combination of bigs that will at least give Sexton, Cedi, and our #5 pick some spacing. If we get rid of Love, all our young guys are going to go to the rim against a packed paint. It's going to be harder for them to develop moves and their passing skills in the paint/at the rim.

I'm hoping Cameron Johnson falls to #26 and we draft him. If his 3 point shooting translates quickly to the NBA 3 pt line, it makes it that much easier to trade Love. Then at worse we have Cameron Johnson and Blossomgame soaking up the majority of minutes at PF.

If Wayne Embry were still running that Cavs he’d be assured to pick the best senior on the board, like Cameron Johnson. Johnson is 23 and he’s perfect for a team that wants a guy that can compete & play right away. The Cavs can afford to gamble on a younger guy with potentially a higher ceiling.

KLove trade unlikely this time... But if ever he gets traded hope it is to a team like Utah... Fits his style of play, would compliment Mitchell as a floor spacer and Gobert can help his defensive limitations...

Even with them winning 3 championships they still can’t get over 2016. Living in their heads, rent free. Easily!

The Cavs would most likely have to win 34+ wins to put the pick in jeopardy, keeping Love is not going to make us a 34 win team unless the younger players overachieve. Even if you don’t think Love is a great locker room guy, he does take a ton of pressure of the younger guys on the court as the defense is focused on him. Both Cedi and Sexton elevator their games when with Love because it made it easier on the court. Unless Love wants out, or you get a overpay type offer you don’t move him.

Depending on what we do with JRs contract, we have a ton of cap in 2 years. If Sexton and Cedi make a jump this year, and we hit the pick we make this year and keep our pick next year the 20/21 season could be a year we might be able to make the playoffs if we still have Love.

The last 3 seasons the team with the 11th pick has had 36 wins during the regular season. The Cavs had 19 wins this past season and I have to think, with a healthy Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson, & John Henson, they can push towards or surpass 36 wins.

Additionally, the new draft lottery also levels the playing field and makes it easier for teams to claim a top 4 pick, as the Lakers did from 11th spot recently. It’s not far-fetched at all to think the Cavs could lose that pick to Atlanta.
