New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This season of Black Mirror was very disappointing.

Agreed. Each episode felt like a retreat of previous (and better) ones. The "Ashley Too" one was especially disappointing and I couldn't stop my eyerolling throughout. Maybe it would've been better as a commentary on pop culture taking advantage of deceased stars or their likeness, but the whole bunch with the sisters was just corny for me. "Bandersnatch" was fun as a concept, but these last few Black Mirror outings feel like cutting board material. For a show that started so high up, it feels like a noticeable dip in quality, writing, and execution of late.

Ashley Too was bad. I thought Smithereens was alright but still wasn't up to par for black mirror. Strike Vipers had a good idea but the execution of the story wasn't right. They could have shuffled some stuff and made a couple changes here and there to make it more black mirror like.

As I've let the episodes process a bit more, I think my major complaint is they just lacked direction or a clear voice. I don't watch Black Mirror for a tense (and stereotypical) hostage negotiation like "Smithereens", but what was it trying to say about social media? It's addictive, we get it. Once again, not to a Black Mirror commentary standard. The only bit of satire / commentary was the ending, but that punch was a full hour into an episode focusing on the abduction.

The more I think of "Ashley Too" the more I dislike it. The introduction of a wacky caper and the foul mouthed robot were unwelcomed elements of comedy. Feels like an episode of a bad Disney teen show. Honestly, Miley Cyrus was not as offensive as some of the other bits. Just an overall mishmash of mixed messages this season.

I started Yellowstone on the Paramount Network (formerly Spike) this weekend. Great cast and writing, imo. New season starts up this Wednesday.

Pretty damn good; I've really enjoyed everything Sheridan has written. Although I have not seen Sicario 2, which I hear was underwhelming.

Dark season 2 is just as good as season 1. The only Netflix show in a long time that felt effortless to binge.

Netflix's the Kominsky Method with Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin is good - only takes 3 to 3 1/2 hours to binge watch the whole thing.

Watching Parks & Rec for the first time. The way they all shit on Jerry is my favorite running gag on the show. :chuckle:

Good to hear. I need to rewatch season one before I binge season two, though, as I don't remember half of what happened and the show was pretty complex.

I love big little lies idgaf

Have you watch Euphoria? It might be the only show I'm excited to watch right now. It reminds me of the UK version of Skins, which is one of favorite shows of all time.

Gf and I have watched it, yes. Some of the teenage raging stuff is a bit excessive but excessive is tv. I liked it enough to watch it again tonight.

Right, this season seemed different than past seasons of Black Mirror. In the past, it seemed like the episodes centered around a really cool technological advancement, but highlighted the worst parts of it. The first episode did that to an extent I guess, but the other two didn't necessarily follow that theme. Seemed like the general theme for the first 2 episodes were porn can be detrimental to relationships and social media can be addictive/bad. I found the third interesting in a sense that I believe there were definitely some parallels to what Miley Cyrus went through growing up and breaking away from being a Disney star.

I fell into the Dark vortex and binged a season and a half the past three nights. Already watched season one back when it came out, but as mentioned above I desperately needed a re-watch to remember wtf was going on since there's so many characters on this show.

Dark is completely insane and I love every minute of it. It reminds me of the best parts of Lost...the constant sense of excitement and mystery and that anything could happen at any moment. But it doesn't have the worst parts of Lost. It's only set for three seasons, so they won't be dragging this shit out until they run out of ideas. It does a good job of actually answering questions as it asks new ones rather than allowing the weight of the questions to build up to the point where there was no hope of every satisfyingly answering them all.

Season two has been great thus far. It introduces some new timelines and plot lines but never feels incomprehensible, even if I have absolutely no idea where this story is going now. Every time you think you know what's going on there's another layer. No idea how they juggle all these timelines but they manage to pull it off.

Netflix series Don’t Watch This is the most aptly named tv series I’ve ever seen

It’s a bunch of horrendous “horror” short stories. The entire series takes 30 minutes to watch.

I defy someone to watch the entire series and tell me they’ve ever seen a worse series in their life. It’s the undisputed worst thing I’ve ever seen

Finished season two of Dark.

This is the best active show currently on TV or streaming. Watch it. It's one of those rare shows where, the second you finish an episode, all you want to do is watch the next one to see what happens next.

I also saw that Gomorrah season four just started airing. Time for a re-watch!
