LeBron James

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I just saw Rachel Nichols on the jump talking about if Lebron wins a title with LA, they can then retire his number 6 jersey and AD will still have 23 to be retired some day. Wtf? Is that normal for another team to retire a guys number who would only have played there a few years at the end of his career? To me the only place his jersey should be retired is in Cle. He will always be a Cav whenever anyone thinks of him. I dont think i have ever heard of the same players number being retired in multiple arenas for different teams. Boy his career has been weird as hell.

Don't forget. The cHeat retired #23 for Jordan despite never being a member of the Heat

We're the LAST franchise that can make that particular point. DEAD last.

Lebron recruiting Kawhi like this is embarrassing, fucking compete and go against each other

I just don't understand why Kawhi would do it. LeBron is just going to pile up all the stuff he doesn't want to do and throw it on Kawhi's plate. Same thing will happen if Butler or any wing/forward goes to the Lakers.

If I were the Raptors or the Clippers, the argument I would make to Kawhi is that if you go to the Lakers you are going to *have* to play a lot of regular season minutes, because the Lakers will have no organic depth. The Raptors and Clippers will both be in a position to sit Kawhi done for significant stretches during the regular season and still have basically a 50-win team on the court. The Lakers, not so much. They have only four starter-caliber players, no backcourt (except if you count Lebron or Kawhi as guards), no bench at all. If AD or Lebron go down for any length of time then Kawhi will be in a position of carrying the Lakers during that period, with the other remaining star.

We know Kawhi wants his minutes carefully managed during the regular season. The Raptors and Clippers can basically guarantee that, the Lakers absolutely can't. Kawhi played 60 games and averaged 34 MPG this year, AD played just 56 games and averaged 33 MPG this year, Lebron will be 35 and played just 55 games last year. There is a good chance that the Lakers will have to play dozens of games where at least one of those guys is out, anyone want to guess what the burden will be on the other star playing in those games? The Lakers can't carry Kawhi but the Raptors and Clippers can -- those are demonstrably playoff teams even without Kawhi playing.

Sorry man. You lost me. You talking about Larry Nance number being in the rafters? His heyday was with Cle though.. The Lakers swooping in and getting old Lebron and retiring his number with Magic and Kareem and those guys, pretending he is one of their own is not the same as us retiring a guy like Larry Nance's number. Just looked at the other Cavs retired numbers. You must be talking about Larry.

Look again.

Ah, Nate Thurmond. Well thats shitty too then. Still dont think its quite the magnitude of probably the 2nd best basketball player of all times jersey being hung at Staples, especially if he wins a ring on basically the 92 dream team. Seems fake. I guess more teams do it than i said in my original post. It just pisses me off, dont the Lakers have enough damn greats and numbers retired? Next they will build a statue of Lebron outside of Staples.

I dont like retiring numbers at all. I get that the Yankees retired Lou Gehrig's #4 - that was a very special situation. The problem now is that many franchises retire numbers for players that frankly weren't all that great.
Nate was an Akron native who didn't play many minutes for us. Great player who's in the HoF and made the Top 50 list but most of that was with the Warriors. There was and is no real reason for that number to be returned by the Cavaliers but it's done.

Well, my opinion on that is we really havent had many guys to choose from to retire their number. It was us grasping at straws to get a number retired i guess. I dont like it either, its pretty weak. Having one more guys number up there looks better while fans are there. I have never been impressed by number retiring either. Just saw them talking about it today and thought it was very dumb.

The dinosaur's #1 jersey got retired in MIA and he objectively meant less to the franchise than Wade and James, so it's likely that James gets 2-3 total jersey retirements.

For that matter, good chance Bosh gets a Raps jersey retirement now that feelings have softened up.

Lebron recruiting Kawhi like this is embarrassing, fucking compete and go against each other

LeBron has been ruining the NBA since he left for Miami. Started stacking the deck there and the whole league has been infected by the superteam plague ever since. Cavs fans were lucky to be in position to benefit from it for one season with a chip, but make no mistake that the NBA is not a real league anymore but rather a soap opera that revolves around one man and his efforts to dominate every aspect of the league no matter what, or the efforts of others to stack the deck in return and counter him.

Bron really must have some voodoo magic over the league cuz this year it was all about KD, it was his moment to be the premiere FA and reshape the league. Yet heres another summer where it's all about LBJ and his stranglehold over free agency and the shape of the league.

Really exhausted by it. Love basketball, very tired of the National LeBron Association.
