Yeah Lee, they are called flaming frontrunners or Lebron fanboys. Another words, not real basketball fans.

2 of my best friends are lakers fans, one I have been friends with for 25 years, grew on in fresno, always loved the lakers, other grew up in minny before they had a team and he HATES LeBron and wishes they would trade him.

Both are huge sports nuts, both played Division 1 football and know sports, just are Lakers fans. Living in Phoenix tons of fans of not the home team for various reason including myself.

I guessing a the Clippers for Kawhi. They got a plan for him. Lebron just wants him to play massive minutes for 60 games..........then a "some" time off....while Lebron probably plays 60 games total for the season.

I wouldn't touch that dude with a ten foot pole.

So basically he wants some stud slaves to bring glory to his name...

I didnt mean to insult your friends man. You know the type i am talking about though. The kind of guys that became Heat fans when he went to Miami. They are everywhere. I wasnt talking about the kind of guys you are describing. Espn just had me fired up. I need to stop watching it. Its Lakers/Lebron/Kawhi mania.

*IF* Kawhi goes to the Lakers, its officially the death of the NBA...way more than what KD did with GS. Here's why:

Kawhi loses 50 million dollars if he signs with the Lakers instead of Toronto. He would also be going from a team that just won the title, to a team that missed the playoffs last year and is super dysfunctional at the top. His current team is good, a stable franchise, and can compete again next year; also from a health perspective they have given him everything he could want. Hes viewed as possibly the best player in the game.

So if it's not about money, loyalty, franchise stability, personal health, legacy, chances to win, chances to compete, past success, etc - then it's literally just an obsession that all of these guys have with LA. And if that's the case, just have LA teams in the NBA and stop wasting everyone's time in other cities with this nonsense. Just have 4-5 California based teams since all these "tough" nba players need to be in a warm climate with celebrities so bad. I mean, my God - what a marshmallow league this will be if Kawhi goes to the Lakers.

At least KD was searching for rings, better teammates and a cooler city. Kawhi to Lakers is simply the weakest shit ever. It's not like Toronto isnt an amazing, super cool place to live.

My take on his mindset:

I think he is going for rings, money, family, and the LA lifestyle. He grew up in LA and his family lives there.

Kawhi will make more money in LA than Toronto. He won't lose 50 million from NBA salary. That is assuming that he is retired after 4 years. He will still collect a nba salary (and a big one most likely) 5 seasons from now. Most importantly his endorsement income will most likely significantly increase being in LA compared to Toronto and as crazy as it sounds Canada has far higher taxes than even Cali. I think they have like a 53% percent top tax bracket or something like that. New Balance wants him in the LA market.

Gasol is 34 and and Ibaka is 30 and both become FAs after next season so he might be thinking about that and it's hard to imagine Toronto attracting top free agents. Also Toronto beat GS because of the KD and Klay injuries. A healthy GS would have destroyed Toronto. Even with just a healthy Looney and Klay I think GS would have won. He might be wanting to form a super team to combat GS. Lebron, Leonard, and Davis is truly a formidable big 3, far superior to any other big 3 we have seen in the modern era or possibly ever imo. Lebron and Leonard are the top 2 players in the NBA and AD is a top 6 player. Also LA will always get preferential treatment from the refs on top of that and ring chasing vets will join. They will pay the luxury tax and add a MLE player to the roster every season. Nothing is a guarentee, but I think that big 3 would rip off a 3 peat.

Then he should go to the Clippers and actually compete against the Lakers. Then I'd have some respect for the move. He could still get his LA perks and cushy weather. And he would be joining a team that won 2 games with no stars against a healthy Dubs team.

I just see the writing on the wall here. Just like with AD. Look, you know Kawhi had to be a Lakers fan growing up. No way in hell he was a rabid Clippers fan. Magic, Lebron, AD, Buss will get him in that room and pour that Lakers tradition up his ass for 3 hours, Lebron will promise him multiple appearances on the Shop, they will talk about him coming home. He is going to be a Laker. Too much smoke now pointing that way. I have pretty much ruled out Toronto, they just dont stand a chance in my mind. So its between the Clippers and Lakers. The Clippers never win in these situations, ever. When this happens it just makes the upcoming season almost unbearable for me. I want to watch the young Cavs and see how we progress but at the same time i will have to endure having Lakermania rammed down my throat. Espn will be unwatchable. I really think the Nba will lose tons of fans when this happens. These idiots in tne media are so out of touch with reality they actually think fans want to see this and its great for the game. Lebron is completely butchering the League that i grew up loving. Butchering it.

I wouldn't be surprised that Kawhi is taking a meeting with the Lakers to set up his contract after this one. I think they know they don't want to burn any bridges in LA. His uncle is his agent but has other clients (not good ones) that it only helps to have his star client take a meeting with. Remember Rich Paul had LeBron meet with the 76ers last year.

No one expects Kawhi to take a long contract if he stays in Toronto. He could looking to sign a 2+1 and once LeBron's Lakers contract is up, Kawhi might see that as his time to go home.

One thing I find odd is Kawhi has a house in San Diego, not LA. If wants to be in LA so much, you would expect him to spend his off-season there.

I insult my friends all the time, its ok, lol...I was just pointing out the Lakers are very, very popular and it reaches far beyond LA. Yes, if they get good suddenly there are twice the Laker fans, so for sure I know the type, but Lakers are THE # 1 draw in the NBA, especially when good.

I dont think it's so much that they think its great for the league and that fans want to see it.. I see it as more so, they are telling fans this is great for the league and hoping with all the hype and trying to sell it on that strength (to a certain fan). You know, try to program people to think it's great and exciting by their coverage of it.

They are not stupid.. They have a pulse on the fans heartbeat. They know what they like and don't like..

Just like they knew people hated the Heat with their "3 Kings", just like they know people hate / hated the warriors, they know people hate the idea of Kawhi going to Laker land with LeBron.. But they love to play with emotions and stir up anger .. Espn is the biggest troll network.

New rumor is KD and Kawhi might want to play together. I hope just so Kawhi doesnt go to LA. Still though, the competative spirit amongst these guys is completely gone. Does anyone know what the FA class for 2020 is like? I really hope its complete garbage just so i dont have to hear all of this kind of stuff again next July. Its an annual tradition i could use a big, long break from.

I feel like there will be a breaking point with the players association with how these superteams are constructed. It's really becoming a league of max contracts, rookie contracts, and vet minimum contracts. At some point the middle of the road guys are going to revolt because they won't be getting paid.

I heard Woj and Bobby Marks say that they don't expect many long term contracts being offered up to anyone one but max or near max players. If teams hold on to future cap space for max players only and not enough of the players are getting paid their share of the pie, I think they will push for a limit to the amount of max slots a team can have.
