Anyone else play JRPGs?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I was inquiring about the gameplay mechanics. All the reviews online praise it and show chopped up clips of it. Still don’t know what it plays like.

Easiest way to explain it (Explaining Persona 3, 4 and 5) is you are following a kid in high school, so you have various tasks that you can do on a given day and deadlines to meet. But you find out about something going on in the shadows and if you don't defeat this shadow that is slowly destroying the world then you will die as well with everyone else. So it's a more of a linear turn-based game with a ton of interesting background/side things to do that has a dungeon crawler system when it comes to defeating enemies and advancing in certain parts of the story. The people who created it, put a lot of time in about every aspect of the game, not just the battle system.

Final Fantasy 15 is a free roamer mostly, while Persona 5 is a story driven dungeon crawler.

Have you guys been looking at the switch lineup for next year? A lot of games are coming out it seems (some are remakes as well)

Aww man, this chat died out! There is so many games coming out for the switch! Anyone want to go over the list with me??

I just bought a switch, so I should look into some jrpgs at some point. But they'll just go onto the pile of unplayed games I own.

JRPG fans, what have ya guys been playing out there?? I haven't heard from anyone really this year!

Went through ni nu no kuni 2 and Nier Automata route A, still working on the other routes.

Was thinking about picking up the Trails of Cold Steel series after finishing Nier since those are being released on the ps4.

Nice! I bought Nier Automata just haven't sat down and played it!

I love the trails of cold steel series, the 3rd game is coming out late this year and I am not sure when number 4 is coming state side, but it looks good as well! Though to get the bonus stuff in the 3rd game you have to beat those games on the vita and not the ps4.

I'm about to start Octopath Traveler. I've gotta finish Valkyria Chronicles 4 before I move onto Octopath tho.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Cold Steel games, was hoping they'd go on sale with 3 coming out soon. I've got a bit of time to kill since the head gasket on my car decided to go awol so looking for any recommendations if you have any (already been through persona, ni nu kuni, ac odyssey and sekiro recently) .

Nier is really good btw, it incorporates mechanics from platformers and twin stick shooters without jarring the player when the pov switches to accommodate the gp mechanics. You do have to play through it 3x to get all the endings but it's worth it though you might have to decompress after some of them. If I could provide one tip it would be to grind early and unlock all the chip slots so you can experiment with play styles.

The most underrated part of the Nier imo is the sound track and use of music to reinforce the tone as well as setting. Probably the best use of music in a game this gen aside from Persona 5.

I haven't played many "modern" video games of any sort, or bought a new system since the DS, but it is very interesting to see that Seiken Densetsu 3 is being remade/Americanized on the Switch - as Trial of Mana.

Did you ever play white knight chronicles btw? Trails I feel is good because they mixed elements of different games, made it their own and put it with a good story line and a good job of character development. Honestly if I would remake the game, I would have the original version then also the choice of more added side elements. I honestly wish they would turn it into an anime, since the story is that good. My one friend who barely plays games, has finished the games and is replaying it! lol
