Cleveland Cavaliers Summer League 2019

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I know it's only the summer league and that players are more interested in showing their individual talents than achieving team goals, but this is the worst coached team I've ever seen. Other summer teams have been able to get their guys organized into "teams", but not the Cavs. I know Beilein is not directly coaching, but he is supervising the guy who is, and this is unacceptable and hopefully not an indication of the future.

Honestly, I don't think it's coaching. Coaching can only go so far.

There was a lot of selfishness on the court. People looking out for themselves.

That Japanese tennis player that played Federer today moved to West Palm so he could train. Intends on moving back to Japan after his playing career, but says his popularity in Japan is way to insane to train. And this guy has never won a major, only made one final and is 7th in the world, wonder what happens if Hachimura becomes an all star, lol

It might have been insane for him to train in Japan because of the fan fare but it's pretty common for pro tennis players to train in a handful of areas around the world. Florida is one of those areas. They need other high level player to train against and the top 25 player in both men's and women's pass around their coaches from year to year. They always seem to want a new approach to the game and switch coaches is how they try to do it.

Players that come from countries with small amounts of top level talent seem to never train in their home country. Maria Sharapova has been training in Florida since she was a kid, that's why she has an American accent.

The weather in Florida also gives them the hot and humid temperatures that they should want to train in for their conditioning. The major tournaments have experience hotter weather conditions in recent years and the lack of getting their body ready for those situations have sent alot of players out. Also since none of the major tournaments are indoors being able to train outside all year is a big plus.

Also, it might just be that these rookies rather sign with different sl teams and not Cleveland, and we get stuck with the leftovers.

Cavs never find undrafted gems in SL. Like for real. Scouting no bueno
The current front office is generally lacking IMO. We’ve lost a lot of good people, like Trent Redden & David Griffin. Dan Gilbert will never have a strong GM working for him because he is very hands-on with regards to personnel decisions. Having a young GM, like Altman, allows Gilbert the control that he desires, behind the scenes.

Sorry. I like what altman has done so far
The irving trade wasnt bad. Altman had zero leverage
Tge sexton pick was solid at 8
Like the picks this year as well

It's real hard to hit on summer league guys though. We had Quinn Cook on our summer league team. The two way contract has only been in existence for 2 seasons so it was a harder choice to keep a guy. They first year of the two way, I thought we had a couple players in summer league that could have been useful and could have grown and develop. The Cavs seem to wait and were left with no one good.

Last year I thought Billy Preston was a real good long term project for the 2 way. We won't know what the actually reasoning for letting him go was but I thought he needed at least a year or two to develop with the sprinkling in of NBA days.

It seems like the Cavs will have Dean Wade on one of the two ways at least to start the season. They are keeping Blossomgame around so I wouldn't be surprised if he fights for the 14th roster spot and he gets another two way contract as a consolation prize. I don't think we will have someone in the 15th roster spot until after the trade deadline.

Kyrie trade gets a pass.
Putting a team around LeBron including those deadline trades that left us with Hood/Clarkson/Nance gets a fail.
Nothing he has done has made me think he is good at his job just yet.

He will be judged on how he builds this team, he won’t last that long if they don’t show improvement each season

How can you give the Kyrie trade a pass after what we just saw this off-season. I don't care about it, but it was not a good trade. No way.

I think the trade alot of us go back to is what the Bucks offered for Kyrie. That was Middleton and Brogdon. Would the Cavs had pay those guys the amount they got this off-season? Is Brogdon, Middleton, and Love a playoff team?

Even though that group would have been better for LeBron's last playoff run with the Cavs, I'm not sure they would have gotten us the #8 pick if we sold them off after the season.
