Right here! I'm of the firm belief that Garland will be better than Sexton straight out the gate. Well, maybe Sexton might be better the first 1... maybe 3 games or so.

If he is better that fast, he will be a HOFer and have a special year for a pg

I’m very excited to see Garland, and the other young guys for that matter. I believe our biggest weakness will be defense. I think it’s critical to net a defensive specialist at C to protect the paint and at SF to automatically guard the best wing defender.

This may not be realistic, but both guys are rumored to be on the block, but something like Clint Capela and Robert Covington.

Starting lineup would be Garland, Sexton, Covington, Love, Capela

Clearly defense is the biggest issue with a Sexton/Garland backcourt going forward. I wouldn't worry too much about Love as I expect him to be moved in the next year. Defensive centers are much easier to come by than wings and elite guards, so that can be found down the road with later draft picks. Hell, Gobert went in the 20s.

I still believe it is possible to build a decent defense around Sexton and Garland... Boston did it with IT and Bradley and Portland with Dame and CJ.

The challenge the Cavs will face is how much do you sacrifice to build a good defense around those two? If you can find two good defenders that are also 35%+ 3pt shooters as well as a rim protector, then you have a great start. But, that is not easy, and moreover...

These rim protecting centers usually can get run off the court. So the team will need to be able to throw out a unit that can outscore opponents, even with a bad defense.

We're in for a challenging rebuild... hopefully, though, it can be a lot of fun.

I think finding the right wings is most important. Ironically, we need us a DeAndre Hunter now, lol. Think Windler is a good start. A super athletic elite defensive-minded wing would be great. Think we could get our hands on that Kawhi Leonard guy?

We need a really strong 3. Even an athletic, strong 3/4 tweener.

It sucks. I don't see anyone in next years draft. I see point guards and centers. We need to tank 2 more years? or, we can fucking try to accumulate more fucking picks and perhaps get a lottery pick or get lucky with a good defensive 3&D 3 in the late 1st round.

It's much easier to get as good wing in the late 1st/late teens/2nd round than it is to get a good point guard. You see a lot of good wings in this league that were actually late picks. Most great point guards in this league were picked early lottery.

Even if we ended up hitting on picks this year and next year, we will accumulate more assets and even when we start playing well, we will likely have 1-2 more years in the middle of the draft range which like you said gives plenty of opportunities to get guys like that. So I don't think we have to worry about tanking/not trying to win beyond this upcoming season due to the pick we owe the Pelicans.

That is true.

We also are going to enjoy the double draft, so we are golden.

Yep, looks like it will be 2022 I believe?

We have the Bucks pick in 2022, top 10 protected. Could be their 1st year post Giannis, but with still a decent enough team to not be bottom 10.

So here’s the thing: If it’s post-Giannis, I guarantee you they will be bottom ten and keep that pick.

That’s like New Orleans/Atlanta thinking we’ll actually convey our 2020 pick.

In a similar way to us, they’ll make damn sure they keep that pick.

Yeah but it's top 10 in 2022, top 8 (and 25-30, weirdly) in 2023, and top 8 in 2024. So they'd have to take below #10, then 8, then 8...so it would be three years. Not sure the Bucks owner has the stomach for something like that. I think even if they lose Giannis, we eventually get that pick. They've never really been a "bottom out" team. Classic treadmill franchise.

People in places are saying Garland has a soft touch around the rim.

I have not seen this to be the case. Certainly can improve though. But hype machine in full effect. If there’s one place I see him struggling, it’s around the rim.

It was a weakness in scouting vids. No explosion to the rim.
