Dan Gilbert

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The narrative changed from Griffin wanted more money and control thus Dan let him walk to Griffin unwilling to stay for any amount of money? IMO it’s veiled shots at LeBron coupled with direct shots at organizational leadership. Pretty telling article and risky considering Griffin hasn’t done s*** in New Orleans.

Griffin even questioned LeBron’s drive to win after the 2016 Championship. Ironic considering he was the one looking to leave right after along with Kyrie. I respected Griffin despite disagreeing with a few of his moves but this is a bizarre take.

I found it somewhat surprising at first, but then after Magic resigned, this should not surprise me at all. I wonder if Magic had the same feeling that Griff had. The pressure of building a championship team around Lebron and gutting your future can be very stressful.

I don't really see why a general manager would want a story out there sharing such anecdotes as, "I collapsed in tears because there was so much pressure."

Seriously, Griff? :chuckle:

I think I'd be trying to walk that one back a bit. Not exactly the image of steadiness you would want in your team's GM.

I always thought it was weird how Griff left. He had trades set up and seem to have things set up for the transition. I think he had said he was willing to stay on to get the Kyrie trade done.

I think this stuff today actually falls in line with all that stuff. He must of had a reason for wanting to be let go vs just plain quitting.

This sounds like lebron, and the perfect example are the lakers, because lebron goes there and all the younger players are shipped off. This comes from having diva players, and Griff should be praying that Zion doesn't become one

I actually think Griff isn't doing things much different from his days with the Cavs. He is actually setting Zion up to be a diva like LeBron. He has basically brought in all these player to fit around Zion without Zion ever playing a real NBA minute. I don't think anything he did this summer was towards building a team organically.

Griffin talks as much as anyone will allow him. Publicly. Not good.

I also don’t think being an NBA GM is very difficult. Stressful? Sure. Hard? No.

And now Griff is trying to walk it back LMAO.

I wouldn’t go that far. They have plenty of non-shooters on that team outside of Holiday, Moore and Reddick. Even drafting Hayes, who is a good player was odd in terms of fit around Zion.

I don’t even know what “organically” or “inorganically” means in terms of building and competing for championships. Draft a superstar or trade assets for one. What other way is there? Dude had LeBron, Love and Kyrie and an owner willing to spend whatever it took to win. Griffin comes off incredibly soft as a professional and incredibly weak and even a snake to LeBron who actually liked him (not that I care).

LeBron is pretty pissed about some of the characterization about him in that article and fired off this tweet:

Is it as difficult as being a fighter pilot, though?

I always liked Griff as a person but I have to admit I lost a little respect for him on this one. Holy cow, man. Toughen up, eh? At the end of the day, this is basketball and you're getting paid to organize a good team around a true GOAT in his prime. I get that it was stressful but I lol'd at some of the imagery presented by the writer. Seems Griff was a puddle of tears and urine, apparently ... ?

Just incredibly odd.

Which doesn't really make any sense at all because LeBron played some of the best basketball of his career during the 2017 and 2018 playoffs. I don't think a guy disinterested in winning could do that.

"The joylessness of the Cavs title run,,,"
Are you f'ing serious?
I seem to remember a bunch of crazy handshakes and celebrations.
I think somebody should ask JR, RJ, and Channing how "joyless" it was.

Sounds like Griffin is a little bitter with LeBron.
LeBron doesn't want to be blamed.
Woj and Perk want to still be in LeBron's good graces.

Its sounds to me like Griffin was the one disinterested in winning. Its sounds like he got tired of the pressure of finding upgrades to keep with Golden State. Which
is probably why he took the GM position on a rebuilding team because there's no pressure or expectations. This is disgusting He's seriously taking shots at an owner and team that brought him success!

It's definitely a huge red flag, imo. It's good for him that he already has a job, because if I was an owner I would think long and hard about hiring a guy who collapses on the floor crying because his team just landed the best player in the world and now he has to build a title contender around him. It sounds like he's already trying to walk it back.

I think there's an undertone of Griff feeling like he didn't really have control of the team he was supposed to be building/maintaining because LBJ had to sign off on every important decision. I can sympathize with that because nobody likes to feel like they're being micromanaged, or have all the decisions that are supposed to be theirs second-guessed.

But there's really no excuse for the statement in 2016 that he knew he wouldn't re-sign with the Cavs, or that he was crying on the floor of his office. That's just weird.
