RIP Fred McLeod

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

So many great calls over the years. This LBJ buzzer beater against the Bulls was one of my faves.

I'll never forget hearing him and AC call game 7 in 2016 from the watch party. The entire game was just so nerve-racking, but hearing Fred and AC's voices during breaks just brought a sense of comfort as my heart was beating out of my chest. Games just aren't going to be the same.

Damn... Liked Fred a lot..

Just kinda wanna pretend he retired

Majority of my basketball life has involved listening to Fred passionately call these games, he will be missed.

What a shock. So sad :(

I'm glad he got to see the Cavs win a ship, and scream like a kid.

RIP Fred.

Perhaps it shouldn't matter, but that makes me feel just a bit better. I know he did games in Detroit, but getting to do them for his hometown Cavs had to be so special. So many fans our age (I'm about his) have lost parents and friends who passed without ever seeing a championship, and I know that's part of what I was thinking in the moment when we finally won a title. I suspect Fred was likely thinking the same about people he knew who missed that moment as well.

So, maybe it doesn't make it better, but it would have been even more sad had he passed before witnessing and calling 2016.

Got to meet and chat with Fred and AC once during a game in Charlotte during Kyrie's rookie year. Fred invited me down after the game via Twitter and I got to talk with them for a couple of minutes before they left the court. They were both awesome. Really cool, took a picture, chatted about how great Kyrie was looking and how it gave everyone hope for the franchise going forward.

I didn't watch a lot of Cavs regular season games the past couple of years, but man it's going to be weird without Fred there to rein in AC. :chuckle:

I was also one of the old heads who supported Michael Reghi and his magnificent hair plugs when the Fred McLoud hiring was announced. I thought ownership was giving in to their weird Michigan obsession again. McLoud won me over with his professionalism within one season. He is leaving behind big shoes to fill.

Great thing about this thread is how many people mention not how good he was at his job, but simply what a good person he was. Every single personal experience relayed in here has been really positive. That's really the much more valuable measure of the man.

This is awful. Just how does one even.

RIP, Fred.

I will be happy when training camp gets here,,its been a weird and scary off season,,first Gilbert's stroke (which seems like it was pretty bad and might have been fatal if he wasn't already at the hospital),,and now Fred.
AC is gonna have a rough time next year without his right hand man..he must be devastated.

I felt the same way; I was always a Reghi honk and figured McLeod was just one of Dan's lackies from Detroit. But McLeod was good at the job and had an enthusiasm and passion that couldn't be faked. He was energetic and into it whether it was the middle of a 26-game losing streak or Game 7 of the Finals. He could also call into one of the local sports radio shows and be a solid, dispassionate analyst of the team and the league. And he was from around here anyway.

Good announcer, good guy and a life too short but well-lived. RIP Fred, you will be missed.

I hope Dan is recovering well. He hasn't posted on Twitter since the stroke.
