All-Time Indians RCF Fantasy Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm going to hit the wayback button one more time. My 5th round pick is another Hall of Famer - Joe Sewell.

He played 11 seasons with the Tribe from 1920 through 1930. His career BA was .320, OBP .391, and OPS .804. He registered 9 years over .300 batting average and 9 over .400 on base percentage. He was top-10 in MVP voting four times and 12th one other time. He is top 100 all time MLB in career batting average, on base percentage, at bats per strike out (2nd all time) and sacrifice hits (21st).

He led the league in assists and put outs for shortstops four times, three times led in fielding percentage and twice in range factor per game. He ended his career with higher than league average range factor, range factor/9 and range factor/game.

He will play SS for me and bat second. A Sewell-Jackson-Rosen 2-3-4 sets up my batting order pretty well I think.

I have no issues with doing 250 as long as I don’t fall asleep after work again when it’s my turn lol

At your current pace, you'll finish 250 picks around Thanksgiving.

This is not a joke. I did the math.

By my math it's 150 total players (6x25). That will still drag out especially as we get to the more, um, average players. I would prefer to continue and finish up with everyone if possible but if someone wants to or has to drop out that's fine, too, AFAIC. Just my two cents.

In the sixth round I will complete my Hall of Fame keystone combo by selecting Joe Gordon. His best WAR with the Indians was in 1947 (7.0) but I like his 1948 (6.6) season best - 96 runs, 32 HRs, 124 RBI, .280/.371/.507 slash with an .879. OPS and 135 OPS+. He was 4th among second basemen in fielding percentage, 5th in range factor, and 5th in double plays. He was an All Star game starter and 6th in MVP voting that year.

I think @sportscoach is next.

I don’t have my list in front of me so hmm...let’s keep going with the unknowns...

1B Hal Trosky

In 1936 Trosky had 45 Doubles, 42 HRs and a slash line of .343/.382/.644. I mean even in the current era you really don’t find those type of slugging numbers!

@Stark you are up!

With my sixth round pick, the Wailing Wahoos select Omar Vizquel, Shortstop.

Omar.jpg

Kind of surprised one of the best defensive shortstops of all time was still available.

Career w/ Cleveland: 1994-2004
Career Stats w/ Cleveland: .283 BA, 60 HR, 39 3B, 584 RBI, 279 SB, 30.2 WAR, 9x Gold Glove, 3x All-Star

Vizquel is here for his defensive prowess, arguably the best defensive infielder in Indians history, but he also had a few years with Cleveland where he swung the bat pretty well too. Never much of a slugger (career high of 14 HR in 2002, and even that was a bit of an outlier), Vizquel had a few great contact/slap hitting years that you could pair with his immaculate defense.

I'm going to choose his 1999 campaign as his best. That season, Vizquel hit .333/.397/.436/.833 with 5 HR, 66 RBI, 4 3B, 36 2B, 191 H, 42 SB, 6.0 WAR, along with an all-star appearance and a Gold Glove.

I'm pretty confident in having Jose Ramirez and Omar Vizquel manning the left side of my infield.
