Car Advice

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Are you vegan? Because that helps 10 times more than buying a cool electric car that has a battery disposal issue.

pretty close, gave up beef and dairy over a year ago.

And there are no battery disposal issues with Teslas - they recycle old batteries.

Awesome on both parts then. I will not call you a hypocrite for sure. Now figure out a way of not using airplanes much and you really are reducing your carbon footprint to reasonable levels.

I refuse to fly on any trip under a 6 hour drive, and bought a decently fuel efficient car. My big issue is I like Beef way to much and that is number 1 on the environment. I really need to give up red meat.

you can have my steak when you pry it from my cold dead hands.

also i love my camaro so fuck that too

in all fairness i commute less than 12 miles roundtrip a day, so it doesnt really matter what i drive, and my wife isnt a huge fan of red meat.

Steak is my biggest red meat weakness too. It depends on what year your camaro is if its an issue. Newer cars don't put out huge amounts of pollution compared to the older cars.

And why do I picture your Camaro parked in front of a double wide in a park with you having a mullet?

its a 2013. I only average 20 MPG, but at 12 miles a day meh. I fly a ton for work and realized that my round trip to the airport has more miles than going into work 5 days a week. Meaning in a travel week I actually put more miles on the car than if i was home. That said i still only average 6k of miles in a year.

Just because im from oklahoma, and drive a camaro.... fuck you lee :chuckle:

Just cut beef/dairy in half. If everyone did that demand would be cut in half and everyone would be healthier. I missed beef when I first stopped eating it, but found other things I liked more, so don't really miss it anymore.

Also doing some other things that seem fairly trivial to do. I didn't even realize until Trump blocked the ban on incandescent bulbs that they were being sold and that we had some in our house. I'm going through every single bulb and replacing any that are incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs. Non dimming 60 watt equivalent LED bulbs cost under $1. dimming ones are about $2.50. They use 8 to 9 watts. If the whole country did that, it would save $2 trillion in electricity use. If the whole world did that, it would eliminate the need for 280 power plants.

I'm also replacing our thermostats with ecobees + room sensors. It automatically reduces power use when nobody is home, no need to remember to change it before you leave.

The plan is to keep taking steps like this to reduce our energy needs, then install solar+battery backup to meet what's left and send any excess out to the grid.

I am saying a modern car isn't as much of an issue as an old car, but the airplane travel kills the environment, but I get that's not pleasure travel, just sucks. Airplans are a far bigger issue than cars, but what can you do.

Also, now that I know you are from Oklahoma and drive a Camaro you are lucky I am not a mod because if you were, I would have changed your name to BobDirt.

Buying or keeping an old car isn't a big deal, especially if you don't drive that often. Those cars will eventually go away, and even selling to to get something more efficient, including an EV, means someone else will likely end up buying and driving the old car.

It's really important for new car purchases to be EVs whenever possible, though. That decision directly impacts if another gas power car gets built at all. Let them sit on the lot so the car companies don't build more.

I am thinking about buying a low mileage pre-owned BMW X3.. I am 6'3" , 240 and I don't fit into a lot of Japanese cars.. I drive long distances periodically (10 hours+) , and I haul my Bike during the season, May- September..

The X 3 fits me. And it seems reasonably priced compared to Lexus for example. Acura is uncomfortable, CRV just a box.. my next down is a Toyota Rav 4 with limited trim. Not quite as posh inside but serviceable.

Any comments to help me make a decision?
