So, I wanted to get you guys some kind of postgame analysis up. There will be much more to it going forward, but I wanted to give you guys at least a little something this week before it got to be too late in the week.

Ups:
  • Baker Mayfield: His pocket presence was miles better than we've seen so far this season. He didn't get happy feet, didn't scramble away from pressure that wasn't there, and trusted his OL. He worked through his reads and made the right throws. He looked like the Baker we saw last season and it was his best game of the season by far.
  • Jarvis Landry: Juice broke out big time. He caught 8 of his 10 targets, showed his playmaking ability in a big way, and proved he not only still has a place in it, but can feast in this loaded offense.
  • Ricky Seals-Jones: The recent pick-up made a case for sticking around after Njoku returns by catching all 3 of his targets for 82 yards and a TD. The 82 yards were a career high.
  • Freddie Kitchens: The play-calling and game planning was infinitely better. We saw more pre-snap movements and the type of creativity we saw in the second half of last season.
  • Steve Wilks: The game plan the D implemented and executed was fantastic and worked to a T. He didn't want to give up the big play, so he sacrificed the short throws and tried to contain Lamar, forcing him to beat them with his arm. He couldn't keep one of his WR in bounds on a wide open sideline throw, underthrew others, and was sacked a season high 4 times.
  • OBJ: While it won't show up in the box score, OBJ's fingerprints were all over this game. He drew a penalty, drew another that wasn't called, and had the defense so worried about him that it opened things up for everyone else to eat.
  • Secondary: Despite some miscommunication on a TD pass, they executed the game plan very well and stepped up big time without their top 2 CB and starting SS. Jermaine Whitehead, in particular, deserves to be praised, coming through with a pick and a forced fumble.

Downs:
  • Penalties: This continues to be a problem. Six more in this one (and IIRC, at least a couple more which Baltimore declined)
  • Damion Ratley: The pass from OBJ, while difficult, should have been caught. That and the penalties he committed did him no favors as he tries to stick around once Callaway returns from his suspension

Ratbird Droppings:
  • Chubb's 165 rushing yards were the 4th most by an opposing player in Ravens history
  • Landry's 167 receiving yards were the 10th most by an opposing player in Ravens history (And the most by an opposing player vs the Ravens since teammate OBJ's 222 in 2016)
  • Baker became the 7th QB to throw for 350 three separate times vs the Ravens and the 4th to throw for 300+ yards on 30 or fewer attempts.
  • This was the 6th time the Ravens have allowed 40 points at home
  • The 530 total yards amassed by the Browns were the 4th most ever given up by the Ravens and the 2nd most they've ever allowed at home
  • The Ravens had allowed 181 TOTAL rushing yards through 3 weeks. They allowed 165 to Chubb alone and 193 to the Browns.

Brownie Bits:
  • Chubb ran for 165+ yards for the 2nd time in his career. Only Jim Brown (15) & Greg Pruitt (3) have more such games in Browns history.
  • Chubb also became the 10th player in NFL history to run for 165+ yards with 3+ TD on 20 or fewer carries
  • The Browns had a 150 yard rusher and a 150 yard receiver for the 2nd time in franchise history (1965 - Jim Brown & Ernie Green)
  • The 530 total yards the Browns amassed was their most since 2007 and their 2nd most since 1986
  • It was also the 3rd most the Browns have ever amassed on the road and the most since 1949
  • Baker threw for 300+ yards for the 5th time of his career. Only Brian Sipe (18), Bernie Kosar (9), and Otto Graham (7) have more such games in franchise history.
  • Seals-Jones 82 receiving yards are the most by a Browns TE since December 2015 (Gary Barnidge)

Chubb doesn’t make the “Ups” is the only thing that I would critique, although you did mention him later in the Ratbird Droppings.

This is cool.

The thing that struck me this game was the payoff of our depth. It isn’t perfect but RSJ, Whitehead, and crew really showed how important that depth is. I mean, Ward is a Pro Bowl corner and Njoku is a feared receiving target and Greedy is an incredible talent, and without that we just shut them down.

Hats off to Dorsey.

The only thing I'll say is that Ratley has shown much more than Taywan Taylor. I'd keep Ratley.

Also, Jim Brown had 15 games of 165+ yards! He only played in 118 games!

Awesome write-up!

Jim Donovan's calls on the Chubb td's got me hype all over again.

Thanks MoFlo... appreciate the effort and time. Fun read!

Wow, Jim Brown with 165+ 15 times! Can you tell me how many times he had 200+?

Had to chuckle at at TE having the most receiving yards since 2015 at 82 friggin' yards. Whoop de doo.

Baker obviously likes to play big vs the Ratbirds yardage wise! Love it!

4 Times.

Also, did it 2x in one season.

Also went over 150+ 20 times. Had multiple 145+ games too so...yeah, insane.

I’d disagree on OBJ I thought he was a down

He didn’t come down with a pass that an elite WR should make just about every time. He had 2 grabs on 7 targets and was mostly a non factor.

At the very best he was a neutral. The whole opening things up for everyone else argument is true, but if you’re an elite receiver and total 20 yards on 7 targets including a drop im not patting you on the back

I don't recall the drop.

A lot of the big plays through the air were as a result of the Ravens doubling OBJ and leaving someone else wide open. It reminds me of how Love's gravity opens things up for the people who play around him on the Cavs. OBJ has that same gravity.

And we won the game by 15 and would have won by over twenty if not for a meaningless garbage time touchdown. OBJ played a big part in that, as those two huge passes to Seals-Jones were entirely because he was open due to OBJ making a move that drew in RSJ's defender.
