2019 Training Camp

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
"Jordan Clarkson is going to move over and play some 3-man,” said Beilein. “With Dylan's injury, (Clarkson)'s going to be over there. You've got to have a wolf mentality as a small forward in some of the things we do. There's not a better wolf on the team than Jordan Clarkson. He's huntin'. And we need a hunter at that position.”

Is it a bad joke guys? Can't imagine Clarkson play 3.

He did at times last year. It was Jordan, Delly and Sexton all on the floor. Who was the 3?

With a Garland/Sexton/Clarkson/Cedi/Love lineup we could have the worst defensive PG, worst defensive SG, worst defensive SF, worst defensive PF, and worst defensive C in the league on the court simultaneously :chuckle:

Its 2019. Basketball is a different animal then 20 years ago. Lots of teams run 3 guard sets. So well he would technically be playing SF its not actually playing SF. Its like Eric Gordon in Houston he played next to Harden and CP3 and was technically the SF but it really doesn't matter in 2019. Positions are just labels now. Its the era of Postionless basketball.

I think positionless basketball will be defenseless for us.

Point of the game is to make buckets. As long as you make more then you give up in the long run you will be fine. At least for the regular season.

And rules off the bench are different too. Defense isn't as important as scoring. Putting a guy on the bench is something you often do when their offense is better than their defense.

Gordon does have like a 7'0 wingspan which helps

3rd day of camp and still no scrimmage for garland. It's getting a little bit worrisome.

Gordon does have like a 7'0 wingspan which helps

Jordan Clarkson 6-10 Wingspan
Eric Gordon 6-9 Wingspan

Either way it doesn't matter. Clarkson was bound to play some "SF" with Sexton Garland Porter and the vets we have at guard. He's gotta get his minutes so we can try to raise his value by the deadline.

wtf clarkson has a 6'10 wingspan? that is so random
I still find it hard to believe he is 6'5... guess we will find out for sure soon with these new rules

Here's more Beileinisms from the coach.

The 4 Stages of Learning:
1. You are unconsciously incompetent. You don't know what you don't know.
2. You are consciously incompetent. You know you are messing up, but don't know what to do about it.
3. You are consciously competent. You know how to do something right, but you have to think about it.
4. You are unconsciously competent. You do it right without thinking about it.
The coach compared this to tying your shoes. After you learn how, you don't really think about it.

He seems to be a very detailed, very interesting guy. I'm a fan already.

My 9th grade geometry teacher gave me that same nonsense about freshman sophomores juniors seniors. That was in 1976. It seemed hokie then. Still sounds hokie.

I can see how it's hokie to make that analogy with different classes of students in high school. But the overall philosophy is right on par in terms of how humans learn many things.
