The 2020 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

This is the price tag going up and Cleveland will not match.

Yes, Frankie wants to stay in Cleveland.

Yes. Indeed. I see.

But he hit .209 with RISP, surely that means his price is going down?
Well, frankly, we can't afford a guy who is going to take up 25-40% of the team's salary who can't bat in 25-40% of the team's runs. We need pitchers, too.

40% holy shit are the Indians going to give him 50 million a year?

Let's say 10 years 300 million. His contract would be 20-25% depending on the year and how much his salary changes.

Furthermore the Indians had 2 guys on the team this year in the 15% range.

Yep. (Carrasco) Heading into 2020 as a starter.
While it would be nice to see Cookie in the rotation, planning for that alone is asking for trouble in case he is unable to go over 60 pitches in an outing (his condition even with medication & treatment could limit his endurance).

IMHO, the Tribe should communicate to Cookie & Jefry Rodriguez that both are being consider for rotation spots in 2020 but only 1 will end up in the rotation. The other will move into a bullpen role for the team (either weapon role like when Josh Hader 1st came up to the majors or late inning setup).

Carrasco will be evaluated in spring training and see how he does when he gets extended out then. I don’t think anyone willl know before then how he will be next season.

Then we are talent wise ten deep in starters like this year proved so I wouldn’t be surprised to see one of those guys being a long man out of the pen. Guys like Moss could earn an MLB spot that way.

Oh I agree the Tribe looks to be 10+ deep in starting pitchers. They are there already (even if Cookie or JRod is in the bullpen).

MLB: Clevinger, Bieber, Kluber, 1 of Cookie/JRod, & Plutko (out of options)
AAA: Civale, Plesac, L Allen, Moss, one of AA group
AA: Eli Morgan, Adam Scott, Triston McKenzie, Sam Hentges, JC Mejia

Civale will be the 5th to open season. Just a hunch.

I'm definitely on Team Civale for the 5th rotation spot. Plesac bailed us out and ate up some innings in a year where we desperately needed it, but he honestly wasn't that great. Had a 4.94 FIP and only 6.8 K/9 versus 3.1 BB/9. If you're not striking that many guys out, you need to have a lower walk rate than that.

Very possible. I like both Civale & Plesac more than Plutko, but I am not in favor of dumping Plutko for a box of bats & baseballs either.
Plutko is functional/ acceptable. If a good trade presents itself and the Tribe pitchers are healthy & effective during Spring Training, make the deal to help the club in another area.

Not going to lie, you aren't winning any arguments here. Most of us agree we cannot spend that much on one player, but at the same time, Lindor is considered a franchise type of player since he hit at the top of the league in most stats and is one of the best SS in the league while also being a captain of this team. If he was in New York he would be the number one known name in baseball period. So as an organization, we have to try and extend him since he is way too good of a player to just randomly let walk. The only reason why I think we are keeping Lindor until his contract ends is the fact we have legitimate teams in 2020 and 2021 on paper, so why not continue to go for it? We have a monster of a class that will be coming up in 2022 and 23 so let's hope we can do something with his draft pick if we cannot resign him.
