I think I'm going to hold off on getting it for probably a year or so, but this is kind of exciting. I just remember that when the PS4 launched, I jumped on it immediately and I really didn't have a great selection of games for about 12-18 months afterwards and all of the games I wanted to play were still stuck on the old generation.

Probably going ps5 main next gen.

unless halo is just balls to the wall dope

Guys, I've been PS1, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 and now Xbox One. I think I'm ready to jump back to Sony with the release of PS5. How do you guys decide which console to go with when the new-gens are revealed?

I've went PS1, PS2, 360, PS4 in my life (not counting Nintendo consoles at all).

My main thing for me choosing PS4 over XB1 was the fact that the Playstation had MLB The Show & The Last of Us and that Halo was on a bit of a decline in my opinion.

Exclusives are about the only major difference between the two current consoles (and whatever your friends play on). I also like the PS4 controller a lot more than the current Xbox one.

I think I'll be veering toward Playstation for the foreseeable future seeing as basically every Xbox game also gets a PC release these days and I can play them all on the cheap by just signing up for Game Pass whenever a new release comes out that I want to play. At any rate, Sony has much, much better exclusives. I don't think Xbox has anything as good as Spider-Man, God of War or Last of Us.

You just choose whichever system is better.

PS2, 360, PS4...?

Why not both???

Gotta quick sell my PS4.

Find which one has the last of us and god of war

go with that one

Not the actual reason I started but a big reason I would never switch.

Can't wait to get it. I usually don't get the systems on day one but I might have to for this. My tv is also like 10 years old so I might bite the bullet and upgrade that while I'm at it and go all in. Still never tried the VR but I'm wondering if they will have an upgraded version for the Ps5?

I've been Playstation since day one, still have my original Ps1 through the Ps4. I just got a cheap Xbox One too to play 2k with a friend. Which I do like the Game Pass deal because I got it when it was like 2 bucks for 2 years. But I've always loved Playstation. I'm sure my friends will get Xbox like usual, but I don't think I will unless it goes on sale sometime in the far future.

This too, and you didn't even mention The Show! Playstation exclusives are soooo much better than Xbox exclusives starting with the PS4/XB1 gen, in addition to just being a better system period. Gears & Halo were just completely ruined (though Infinite looks like it could be good).

Xbox is gonna have to step up with something or they will get completely smoked next gen.

Don't you have a gaming pc? It's coming to pc so you would probably be better off getting a playstation.

It's also being released on XB1, so, he can just play it on there if he keeps it.

I could. I dont like dumping money into my PC too often anymore, haven’t upgraded in a couple years, but still use it to play certain genres/games. I’m primarily console these days.

Suppose i could make things easier by just getting a PlayStation 5 and skilling Xbox entirely next gen. Maybe just hoping Microsoft finally brings the exclusives but I’m guessing they’ll all just be on pc anyways.

The two new Gears games play pretty much exactly like the old ones imo. I think it's just the formula is stale now. I feel the same about Halo. It didn't get worse so much as it didn't evolve at all to compete with the new games coming out. Eventually, you need to wrap shit up and change the franchise, kind of like how Assassin's Creed completely reinvented itself with Origins by leaning into the RPG aspects of the game and veering more toward a Witcher 3-esque experience than sticking with the tired and tedious gameplay from previous installments.

Gears is still Gears. It's just that hiding behind chest high walls and shooting wave after wave of enemies with the same ten weapons from the original trilogy isn't as exciting any more because other games are out that are better now. Adding a semi-open world and a couple of side quests didn't change the basic loop. It just made the game a little more tedious.

I'd also say that PS exclusives were generally better during the PS3 era too. Microsoft was more competitive in that regard (and had a vastly superior controller), but it was still Sony's show.

The gameplay for both is more or less the same (though I would certainly say both have regressed in that regard, particularly Halo, making them incredibly "scrub" friendly). Personally, I don't care as much about the multiplayer aspect these days. I feel like multiplayer shooters in general have become stale as hell. Where I think things have really fallen off for both games is in the story. I hate basically everything about the story direction they went with both franchises post Gears 3/Halo 3 (excluding Halo Reach, which was a very good game).

And I'd say 360 easily won that gen, probably the largest gap between competing consoles ever.
