yep Jrue played out of position in college because his coach was more confident in using the veteran Collison ummm shocker there. Jrue was even more versatile as a defender than the lock down speed demon defender in Collison, but I guess that doesn't matter, and Garland playing against poor defenders helped his cause significantly in all 4 games to make him look like the better prospect to offensive drunks.
This back and forth bs regarding Garland getting old.
He was overpicked imo and he is nothing more than a 6th man bench scorer on a contender at this point,
what he turns into is another story but some people on here think he is more than he ever showed to be.

Jrue was a better HS player and that was the entire point since that is all anyone had to go on with Garland.

He is an elite off the dribble shooter and has shown zero reliable skill beyond that other than taking and making some tough passes but mostly better at turning the ball over.
What kills me is he does not show the effort to dive for 5050 balls or show any gamer mentality on that side of the ball having zero interest in having any responsibility playing the passing lanes. There is zero reason to believe he is any different than the Stephs and Kyrie types who want to be treated like QB's who slide instead of hurdle.
hes a pussy

I was more impressed with Garland on defense than I was Sexton. Garland was disruptive and caused a turnover. You are really putting some definitive statements on Garland when you really haven't seen him play much.

I’m confused... you say that posters here think he’s a better player than he’s shown he is, but what he has shown is that he is an elite shooter with good vision and passing instincts. Both of those traits are extremely important for PGs if they want to be great. If your argument was closer to “the sample size on what he has shown is too small” I would understand your take, but you also make sweeping generalizations about his toughness and defensive abilities, so I know that you didn’t intend for the “small sample size” thing to be your take.

Ozone makes no sense. The defensive PGs in the NBA don't make the impact and win championships. The shooters and the defensively inept do. He has some kind of fetish for defense and I understand, defense is cool and fun, but it doesn't matter anymore as teams will shoot open 3's on almost every possession regardless of who your pg defender is. If you shoot better from 3 than the other team you will always have a better chance to win. The most important trait for a PG nowadays is the ability to shoot off the dribble on better than league average, and if you can also pass and get inside the lane it's game over.

Garland projects to me as a generational shooter. The difference between a player like Trae Young who shoots at a high volume but still can't shoot efficiently and a player like Garland is big, and yet Young just by having the reputation and the trigger to shoot from long-range opens up the game for everyone else on the team, and his percentages don't warrant that respect. Imagine if Garland's does...and I'm certain that he is a much better shooter.

There was a member here that thought Jevon Carter was going to be a star. He was a defensive beast in college, and where is he now? the next Rondo he called him and predicted that the Cavs pick him up. I wouldn't be surprised if it was you.

Yeah i mean people were melting down thinking Sexton had no outside shot. It was defcon 5

I just want to point out that OKC used 3 PGs in the same lineup the other night and looked damn good doing it. Its getting closer and closer to true “positionless” basketball now, whereas before, the whole positionless thing basically applied to wings playing as bigs / LeBron, Giannis, and Ben Simmons playing as point forwards. Garland, Sexton, and KPJ/Cedi SHOULD be able to coexist and thrive together given the right coaching. Having multiple “primary” ball handlers on the floor can mean that a team has multiple players who just know how to find the right play consistently. We need to watch the Thunder closely this year to see how they do

Did Garland run your dog over or something? Jesus Christ.

And we wonder why groupthink is so prevalent here

Rondo? You mean the guy who is on the same team as LBJ now and literally flailed (and frankly flagerantly) reinjured kyries face during a preseason game? What a smoldering pile of washed up dog crap. I knew it was Rondo before I even watched the highlight. Seriously, that guy is an entitle piece of crap. I hope the Lakers fail just so I can watch Rondo suck his own tits.

Calling bullshit with extreme prejudice on this take.

It’s not “groupthink” if everybody independently examines the record and comes to the same opinion. Is it “groupthink” if many posters take somebody to task for saying the sun will rise in the west tomorrow?

As for Garland, all we have to go on the guy is four college games, one exhibition game against a weak team, and a team scrimmage that was open to the public. All of us ... okay, almost all of us can agree that it’s way too soon to call him a pussy who won’t play defense.
