I know there’s a pet thread, and I cannot find it and am losing my shit.

has anyone ever set with parvo in a puppy? Looking for tips, stories. The vet said there’d be significant poop issues, and all we’ve seen isfirmer poop, and the redness in it looked like a worm.

we’re being told to force feed/home sub-Q? Him because I can’t afford 1k a night. He honestly has slept pretty much all hours since 5am (roughly 7 hours at this point) and had absolutely no accidents in his crate last night. No signs or issues until an insane amount of gurgling.

Completely lost my mind at the vet, uncontrolled sobbing and self-blame. I haven’t ate since Sunday, and as someone with insane amounts of anxiety, no clue how to get through this.

Sorry to vent.

Sorry to hear bud.

Im a bit old school, so I learned young that add some Copenhagen in with food along with a bit of olive oil. The Copenhagen will help kill off any parasites and the olive oil helps with the actual bowel movements. And clean the bedding thoroughly, daily. Especially if your pup shows signs of improvement.

Hope everything turns out okay

@Jack Brickman is who you want to speak with. He's one of the resident dog experts here so he probably can help you.

I've never dealt with parvo before in any of my dogs so I can't really help any more than google could. According to google, the first three to four days are the worst and most dangerous, but you've obviously found it in time and taken the dog to the vet, and since it sounds like you caught it on Sunday, I'm guessing you're about one day away from the danger zone passing. Says it takes 7-10 days to fully work its way out of their system, but after four most dogs make a full recovery. One of the biggest issues is severe dehydration from diarrhea, so if your pup's poop is still mostly firm, that's probably a good sign. Make sure he always has water on hand to drink, even at night. Better he pee in the crate than get dehydrated.

I'd just continue to do whatever your vet told you to do and take the puppy in immediately if anything changes for the worse and keep him quarantined from other dogs until he's healed up. That's really all you can do.

This is breaking my heart. I know he or she will be just fine, but it's hard when you feel helpless.

that’s probably the best way to describe it. Having to stick a needle into your 9 week old new family member is incredibly painful.

weighed myself: down seven pounds, and we just started parvo treatment today on day one of symptoms. Yesterday, the same vet gave him a clean stamp of health. My significant other has been awesome relieving me of duties so I can sleep because I simply hadn’t been, and yet, I slept for two hours and am now wide ass awake.

Can't offer any advice but as a proud daddy of two pups, best of luck. It's heartbreaking having to deal with this kinda shit.

We ended up taking him to the vet. I got care credit. Glad we did, because they stabilized his blood pressure, which was a touch low.

we can only afford three days, even with a care Credit, so we’ll see Sunday. Really rough few days.

I just had my 6 month old Frenchie die about a month ago. The morning of, he was running around like crazy, eating, playing. When I got home from work, he had thrown up a huge amount and was laying in the back of his cage. I took him out and cleaned him off. He wouldn't stand on his own so I took him to the veterinary hospital. They thought it was a blood sugar thing because, apparently, puppies can't regulate their own blood sugar. They said they would pump him full of fluids and I'd hopefully be able to take him home the next day. They called about two hours later and told me that I needed to put him down. In the 10 minutes it took me to get there to say goodbye, he went into cardiac arrest and passed. Internal organs hemorrhaged which caused the arrest. There is no feeling in the world like losing a puppy. Older dogs, you've given them a great life and you're at peace when it's their time. Losing a puppy is on a completely different level. I couldn't remember the last time I was that sad.

The only good that came out of it is that I had a one year health guarantee with the breeder and was able to get my money back and go get a new puppy (from a different breeder) to help lessen the sting. So today, I get to enjoy my new buddy:

I wish you the best of luck!

Damn, that's horrible. Sorry you had to go through that. Putting down my previous boxer was probably the worst day of my life.

Dude. I love frenchies. My buddy has one named Butters. Sorry you went through all that. What was his name?

I’ve been quiet. The last few days have been really rough, but he’s been incredibly stable. It’s been frustrating, because stable doesn’t sound like improvement...

But yesterday evening, and again last night, he ate on his own. Which is a MASSIVE step in the right direction. Uncertain if they’ll want him to go home today, or if an extra day might be better. But absolutely terrific news waking up to pictures of him eating.

Day two update; small parvo poop (couple of drops), it successfully slept through the night, woke up and ate in his own! The significant other is working from home (honestly, my company has basically allowed one of us to be at home no questions asked, and let the other leave/stay home if something major happened and it’s a fucking massive blessing), said he’s playing a bit and eating/DRINKING on his own.
