Watched Midsommar tonight and I get why this had very mixed reactions. I wasn't into it. Beautifully shot but ultimately it was just so fucking boring. It lacked that palpable sense of dread that Hereditary had and I never really had a reason to care about any of the characters. This movie is two hours and thirty minutes long and it feels like twice that. I feel like every time I paused it to see how much time was left, the time left doubled.

What a let down. At no point was this movie scary.

Why would he have bothered with the Waynes if he never meets Batman?

I guess he did make him very human and non comic- book-y so Batman might be impossible to fit in.

So, even when DC scores, they fail.

I dunno. It really depends on what they do with it.
There was an interaction with young Bruce Wayne and Bruce’s parents are killed, but it wasnt by the Joke and the dialogue was completely different than Batman which bummed me out. So given that this movie was moreso an exploration of reality and really... “what would create somebody like Joker in today’s reality?” I just don’t see how there’s room for a person jumping from rooftop to rooftop with a cape on. There was zero humor and the whole movie was one long, visceral punch in the dick.

I’m really glad they took it the route they took it. I think there needs to be more clever and creative ways to bring comic book heroes closer to reality. How they do it? Fuck if I know I’m not the creative one.

I also am glad it’s set in the time period it’s set in. No cell phones or technology to look at throughout the film. Just a good ol straight up dark drama like from back in the day. I appreciate the fuck outta this movie and I can’t believe a studio signed off on it. It’s unlike anything in the comic book movie universe.

I just re-watched it. This might be that he won't meet this iteration of Batman.

To be clear...I agree that it was a very good movie. Just super, super heavy.

Anybody looking forward to The Irishman? Man i cant wait. 3.5 hrs of it too. Old school mob movie with all my favorite actors growing up. Directed by Scorsese. Havent been this pumped for a movie in a long time.

I think the director said that this iteration of the Joker will never meet Batman.

Would that mean Leto will reprise his role as the Joker? While Phoenix nailed it in the Joker movie, you dont get that dark vibe from him and after watching that origin movie, seeing batman beat up Phoenix is going to seem like borderline abuse to me. Leto's joker has a nice punk vibe and he might actually make an evil villain to Robert Pattinsons batman.

Watching It: Chapter Two.

They included the Paul Bunyan scene from the books. 10/10

Also loving Bill Hader in this. "You should have said, 'Come back to Derry and get horribly murdered.' Then I would have said no!"

Still in theaters?

Leto Joker needs to be buried and forgotten.

My guess is we don’t get another Joker for at least a couple more continuations of BatPatt
