2019/2020 Roster

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You might see contenders moving a bad contract and 1st to get a productive player like TT or Clarkson to actually shore up a weakness while getting off bad money. It would not be for free agency this year, but just to clean up the cap and pay less tax in the future.

George Hill and the Bucks are a good example of this. Getting Hill gave the Bucks options going forward and at the end of the day they brought him back on a 9 million per year contract. The ability to use bird rights to resign guys and keep the MLE and bi-annual exception open for new additions can be worth giving up a late 1st round pick for.

TT might get a pay cut but for the right team he might still get 9 or 10 million like Hill got. If Clarkson can be an effective 6th man for contender, a team would be happy to keep paying him 13 milkion a year.

I'll be absolutely floored if TT gets more than the minimum next summer. No one wants a declining rebounding specialist carrying a bunch of off-court baggage.

He will. I will bet $100 on it or more I'll bet my life on it. I'll even go as far as to say he will get the MLE.

sure we have seen that before , but I get the feeling neither of these two are going to get that much interest let alone playing time to gain interest.

Depends on injury. Fans sometimes overestimate some players while underestimating others. There is always a team that routinely gets killed on the boards that could use TT, even if it is of the bench or situational defense. He can still switch, and he is good at the end of games.

Imagine you are paying 30M or so for Bench players and you are near the bottom of the league in scoring off the bench. Contenders have weak benches every year and it was one of the Cavs big weaknesses post 2016. Clarkson actually got better last year, and was better conditioned. If Beilein as a guard whisperer can get him to improve again we are talking 1st or 2nd scorer off the bench in the league. Someone will trade a bad contract for that.

We are probably overestimating how good Cedi and Sexton are because they are young, and overestimating how bad TT and Clarkson are because they have become a little less useful against the Warriors, who don't even exist in their previous incarnation.

I hope you're right about the playing time part anyway.

My first thought when I look at next years fa class is nobody is likely giving up good assets for expiring players that are probably only looked at as a means to get rid of bad contracts .No good picks or young players.
The Cavs would have to take back to much salary to qualify the move unless the return was a mid 1st meaning a lottery protected 1st from a fringe playoff team.
To me neither Clarkson nor Thompson with both being Klutch represented will arbitrarily settle for deals next summer on a team that trades for them at the deadline and any team trading for them knows that and so would only be taking on a rental to dump bad salary that extends past this season so they will only be interested in them for their expiring value and won't offer them much to return if anything and definitely would not give up good value under most situations.
I guess the best case would be both are moved for late first or early 2nds and another Henson type injured but potentially useable player going forward

For me, to get an idea on how the roster looks this upcoming season, I look to the past and learn from it. 2010-11 is to 2018-19 just as 2011-12 is to 2019-20.

So, this is how our first 2 years without LeBron (part 1) looked. There were only 3 major changes in between the 2 years: Irving, Thompson, and Casspi. But it was enough to improve by 2 wins despite playing 16 less total games. This proves that adding an influx of talent really can shape a team differently than before.

It's not 100% accurate, but my overview of the (part 2) rosters. It was hard to put together because of all the injuries, trades, and a revolving lore of rotations. But it has the same idea as 2010-2012: Lacking in personnel but way more talent than the previous year. If we don't completely flub the season to get more draft picks (or have injuries ruin it again), I could see this team breaking past 25 wins (at least a 65% chance in my mind).

According to sources, Knight looked “really good” during Cleveland’s pre-camp workouts in New York recently. He was one of the players singled out. Most likely, his greatest impact will come as a valuable mentor to the young backcourt duo — or as a potential trade piece at the deadline because of his expiring contract. Taking on his money last season allowed the Cavs to net a first-round pick, which turned into sharpshooter Dylan Windler. Whatever Knight becomes in Cleveland this season, adding that contract was worth it.

Seeing how this is a contract year for our expirings contracts wonder how many of these guys step it up this year? TT, delly, knight, clarkston, henson and cedi.

Knight for sure looked like a future starting-caliber guard his first couple years in the league. Injuries and Kyrie did him in. Now he's bounced from one team to another. Still time to resurrect his career though.

Felt like Thornwell was such an obvious choice and yet they go Martin. I really dont see the point of Martin with our glut of bigs + Wade. Thornwell at least offered defense on the wing, something we have nothing of.
