Marques Bolden

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I really think he needs to find his way under Channing Frye’s wing and do everything he can to emulate that career transformation. Would go a long way to getting, and keeping, him in the League.

I love Channing Frye but this dude is not Channing Frye. Frye always had a mid range game even in college. This kid has no semblance of a mid range game. Its a miracle he shot 72 percent from the line last year. Frye was a 70+ percent FT Shooter 3 of his 4 college seasons and 83 percent as a senior. We have stretch 4's in Dean Wade, Osetkowski from Texas, What this kid needs to be and develop is his defensive game. If he wants any shot at making this team now or in the future after time in Canton it will need to be as a defensive anchor not a stretch 5.

yeah seems like all his value is in his standing reach to block shots

Just as an FYI. Beilein said in his presser yesterday that Bolden was having a good camp. Only guy he praised specifically.

I wonder if he just didn't develop at Duke because Coach K just isn't a great developer. Most guys come in and are then gone after all.

Coach K isn't a good developer? He changed his coaching style to fit the One and Dones. But he still develops talent Grayson Allen was a senior 1st round pick last year. As for why he wasn't used in college he went to the wrong school. He was playing with Tatum and Kennard as a freshmen. Two Lotto picks. Bagley and Wendall Carter. Two front court players who were top 10 picks. Then finally this year he played with 3 top ten picks Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett, Cam Reddish. He was a productive player in the limited minutes he got. Showed flashes of being a defensive anchor. But the talent at Duke is never a joke.

Who are Coach K's best seniors? I am genuinely curious. I see him play to prospects strengths sometimes, but they don't seem to address weaknesses much. Am I wrong? I admit that college basketball is not my thing. I watch a dozen college games a year maybe.

He changed with the times. In the 90s until the mid 2000s he was producing top 5 picks as seniors. Grant Hill is one that went on to make the basketball HoF. Shane Battier was a 4 year player who went on to be a key cog on some championship teams. JJ Redick has had a long Succesful career. Before the one and dones took over Coach K constantly churned out top 10 picks. He adapted with the times and is continuing the top 10 picks with one and dones.

Imagine all the titles coach K would have if he could develop. He gets all the talent he needs.

Will always be remembered by me as that guy that blocked Drummond in a random preseason game

I don't get why we didn't convert Bolden to a 2 Way. Tyler Cook is a combo forward who can't shoot and doesn't stand out defensively. Just a weird choice. I thought Bolden had upside as a defensive 5.

Cook seems extremely limited. Bolden couldn’t rebound or do anything on offense so I’m not that surprised but rough for him given he was carried over after summer league

Bolden can at least block shots. Not saying I care that he's gone. Just don't understand Cook over Bolden. Bolden does 1 thing. Cook does none.

I just watched Tyler Cook's college highlights. My assumption is that they just think Cook has a higher upside than Bolden. Beilein has played against Tyler Cook 6 times in the last 3 years.

Cook look to me as a guy that has the handles of a small forward, size of a power forward, and the explosiveness to play as a undersized center if necessary. If they are able to get him to develop a 3 point shot, I could see him as someone who can play SF to a small ball center. He looked like he is good as a screener in pick and roll.

Bolden while I think he is more developed, just seems like a position that can be found when needed. We really don't need another center at the moment. Bolden probably plays the year in the g-league and if we trade away Henson and TT, we can promote Bolden or a player similar.

Moses Brown has looked better than Bolden but I think he got a two-way

Cook looks like he has way more upside than Bolden to me. He's more athletic and quicker, also seems to be relatively skilled for a big, looks like he can handle the ball a little and make good decisions. If he can develop a jumper, he could be useful, obviously he's a long shot but seems like a better bet if you're just looking for a guy to develop. Bolden is kind of one dimensional, upside is basically a backup center at best. I was rooting for him to make the team, was kind of bummed he was cut. But, then I looked at Cook and it made a lot of sense, he looks better.
