2019 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Games that might pique your interest.

When I pick these games, I try to pick games where I think there might be a chance of a top team getting upset. Never in a million years would I have picked South Carolina over Georgia or Illinois over Wisconsin as a possible upset. Should I be more inclusive?

Wisconsin at OSU - Went from a huge match-up to....something less exciting. Wisconsin was mostly good at keeping things close vs Urban's teams. Never lost by more than a score except for that time Cardale Jones beat them 59-0. Although, only once did Wisconsin come to Columbus, and that was a 31-24 OSU win that was a 17 point OSU lead heading into the 4th. Wisconsin has only played 2 road games - a 49-0 win over USF week 1 and last week's loss. I originally thought Wisconsin would be bale to keep it close. However, where are they mentally? Are they desperate or are they still shell shocked?

Oklahoma at Kansas St - Normally wouldn't even think about this game, but maybe this game gets interesting. A road conference game vs and above .500 opponent always has some sort of danger. Of course, Jalen Hurts is probably too efficient to make this close.

Iowa at NW - Which is better for OSU: If Iowa wins, the B1G looks stronger overall with more teams having numbers next to their logos. However, OSU played NW and not Iowa, so NW winning helps strength of schedule.

Auburn at LSU - I thought last week was a trap game for LSU, but they handled business. I don't think Auburn is that good, but a win by Auburn really muddies the playoff waters. If you assume the SEC East winner doesn't make the CFP unless they win out, 2 SEC West teams is the conference's only shot at 2 bids. If LSU or Bama loses to anyone besides each other before the SECCG, I think the 2 SEC team dream is dead.

Arkansas at Alabama - Only to see how they look without Tua.

Notre Dame at Michigan - Michigan is in need of a big win for the psyche of their program. Notre Dame has a slim, but still some, playoff chance. This might be their last chance to get a "big" win. However, with a loss, Michigan might not be ranked. Michigan is favored by 1.

Penn St at Michigan St - I say trap game alot, but this also feels like a trap. MSU loves playing ugly. Can see PSU playing sloppy, and MSU winning a low scoring, high turnover affair. Would be better for OSU if PSU wins, I think.

Pac 12 - Oregon and Utah, your presumed Pac12 title game participants, host borderline bowl teams at home. If either wins out, might have an outside CFP shot.

Duke at UNC - Sorry, wrong sport.

Indiana at Nebraska - Who would've thought this as a 1 point spread? Indiana would be bowl eligible with a win. Don't know the last time they were bowl eligible in October, but I'll assume never.

Mississippi St @ Texas AM - Tx Am looking to jump into the top 15 with a win.

One loss conference champ Oregon or one-loss, non-SEC champ Alabama/LSU: who’d get in?

I feel most would say omg seczzz but If Oregon wins out that resume is going to be pretty respectable.

Almost 99% sure the SEC team would be in, especially if the LSU/Bama game was close.

Problem with Oregon is that they lost to Auburn, who in this scenario is 3rd, at best, in the same division as LSU/Bama, and a team that LSU/Bama would have beaten. Had their only loss been to a Pac12 tean, or to a solid team from any other conference, Oregon might have a better chance.

I personally guarantee that any undefeated P5 conference champion will make the playoff. The amount of backlash the committee would receive if an undefeated conference champion Oklahoma or Ohio State was left out would be unprecedented.

Agreed. There is no way a 1 loss SEC team makes it over the likes of an undefeated Oklahoma or OSU. A 2 loss team? Come on now.

It would not only be a bad precedent to set, but would be terrible for ESPin's ratings as well.

Pac 12 is already done.

Unfortunately the SEC would win that one, especially if it's Bama.

Michigan Notre Dame will be interesting. No way we catch UM before they hit 1000 wins but I want to chase the winningest title and every loss helps.

If we play an undefeated Penn State it'll make for a more interesting game and boost our resume, but I always feel that we just need to take care of business and we're in rather than worrying about the rest.

Yeah, I find myself far less concerned about how other opponents fare throughout the season. I’m convinced we will receive lowest-priority consideration if we are a one-loss conference champ; therefore, if we just win out it’ll take care of itself either way. That’s why I didn’t care about Wisconsin losing to Illinois; I will say I’m no less concerned about Wiscy as an opponent after that loss, they’re still scary defensively and Taylor is Taylor.

Yeah, the only thing that loss did was make this Saturday a must-win. The only 1-loss scenario I could see us overcoming with Clemson waltzing in undefeated, two strong SEC candidates, and Oklahoma right behind would be a re-match victory against Wiscy in the B1G championship. Now that would be harder to defend.

Just win the games, we're good enough to play with anybody.

We had a chance to slide in to the playoffs if Wisky beat us and then we got revenge in the big ten championship game and won our other games and other top tier teams lost a game. A chance.

Now it’s a really slim chance and I would think every game is a playoff game from here on out. We will be favored in all games, but the point is that it’s really hard to win them all.

Wisconsin totally had that game and let it slip away. What a bad loss. They are still a great team and formidable opponent. Best defense we have faced and best rushing game we have faced. Best OL. Not an easy game. We had better bring it.

It’s absurdly hard to go undefeated 13-0. I don’t expect us to. Which sucks as that’d kill our playoff hopes. One game at a time boys...

Omg OU is gonna win now. Unreal

Unless that hit the OU player

Crazy that this call has CFP ramifications.

The commentators can say it's clear all they want, but it's ultimately up to the refs on the field.
