Zubac had been in the league a year longer and has gotten a lot more playing time.
Because Zubac is more athetlic. Idk why you are so hung up on a plodding center in 2019 man. Let it go.

I think we need a backup center. That's all
I dont agree that he clearly was not the answer. I think he is not clearly the answer and thats the problem. He has good scoring skills and excellent size, but he does not appear to have the commitment to get better. He is very young though, and that should be a vector in how we deal with him. That's fine. But clearly Zizic wasn't the answer. He flashed at times but isn't athetlic enough for today's game and is always hurt. Cavaliers declining his option isn't a big deal at all. I would have been more shocked if they committed to paying a garbage time player almost 4 Million next season.
I gotta wonder if he did something in camp to make Beilein unhappy.Cavs are declining his option. Seems weird when you need a backup center.
I still.like him. Defensive potential, sets screens and Scores easily
I highly doubt Beilein is making decisions on option pickups at this stage in his coaching tenureI gotta wonder if he did something in camp to make Beilein unhappy.
Eight observations from Cavs’ second win: Sexton’s dunk, rookie development and Thompson’s defensive presence
On the defensive end, Beilein wants Thompson to be the last line of defense and protect the rim. Thompson delivered.theathletic.comZizic is sidelined with plantar fasciitis in his left foot and has been out for almost two weeks. He is expected to be out for up to another two weeks.

I would agree that they asked his opinion, but I would assume that this was mainly a front office decision.I find it hard to believe that the front office would decline the team option on an inexpensive young player without at least asking the coaching staff if they thought he could be salvaged.

I sort of remember that declining a team option on a rookie scale contract does weird stuff with his bird rights. Anyone recall anything about that?
If they can still sign him in the offseason again I won't be mad but it is a weird move to me. It's only $4 million, Why take a chance on losing what little to nonexistant center depth they have with a very young player to boot.
