2020 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I talked about him some last year but I just love Paul Reed’s game. I’d imagine he’s kind of stuck in a bit of a basketball graveyard at DePaul and will probably be more of a guy that emerges around the combine but if he takes 1-2 (3’s) a game and continues to show his defensive pop, he is an incredibly attractive two way spacer / rim protector. He just has a unique combination of size, skill and shooting.

Does he project as a center or more of a power forward? I see he's pretty thin.

I’m a fan of Reed also. I will definitely be checking out some DePaul games, as Romeo Weems is a legit NBA body wing who can pass it a little. Just needs the jumper, and he will be quite the player.

I could see Reed getting back end first round looks if his shooting holds up, though I think there’s greater odds of him being a late second or even undrafted. The handling flashes are impressive, but I’d suspect teams are going to wait to see if his shooting holds up. He took some shots off the dribble last year, and has a nice high release, but mechanically things are stiff which makes me expect his shooting numbers to fall off some. My biggest issue with him is his decision making, though. Can definitely put up some bad shots, and passing vision is a big issue. His defense is pretty hit and miss, but the impact he makes is pretty obvious. I’ll be curious to see what kind of offensive load he can handle with Strus gone, as well as if his shooting/playmaking for others can be consistent. A very interesting player that I’m sure may benefit some from the success of Giannis/Siakam/Other NBA coordinated wings that have had success of late - though not that level of player, of course.

Florida State played last night, and they of course always seem to have NBA ready size wings/forwards that are intriguing. Devin Vassell really really stood out for me... I assumed coming into this year that he was a clear cut 3&D wing, but he hit some shots off the bounce last night that really caught my eye. I’d recommend checking him out if you haven’t already. If he gets more ball handling reps like this with Mann gone and plays well, he is really going to shoot up draft boards. I know others like Raiquan Gray as well from FSU, who is a big body forward that could eventually shoot it (your prototypical FSU forward, right?). I’ve not watched him much yet to form an opinion on him yet, though.

Hi. Who are you? You just joined and you seem very knowledgeable on the draft.
So welcome, especially if it's your first and only account :)

I don't know, I think size wise, he's in a good spot.

He's listed at 220.....his body has gotten better each year.

He probably naturally grows in to the 230-240 range, which is plenty big enough for a modern NBA big.

I view him more as a modern 4 that is skilled enough to play the 3 in spots.

Offensively, he fits anywhere 3-5, with his off ball movement and shooting. He has a nice compact, high release and his length allows him to comfortably shoot over defensive pressure.

Defensively, he's such a good help side shot blocker, that you probably want him defending bigs and not out on the perimeter vs 3's.

Most mocks don't have him in the 1st two rounds, which is ludicrous to me. I was just bringing him up for people to keep an eye on him. I think he'll end up being a 1st round pick at years' end.

There are certainly areas he can improve but few guys at his size have a mix of shooting, defensive and hustle stats. He was a 77% FT shooter as sophomore, on 100 attempts.....so I certainly think his shooting can be real.

The only things in his analytic profile that are flagged as cool are volume markers for FGA, PTS, 3PA per 100. He's generally good in all areas but needs to prove his scoring efficiency can sustain at volume. I don't think he's going to have any problem doing so, just with how he generates points but we'll see.

His shooting is probably his swing skill in his draft profile......if he can sustain anything in the 40% range, at higher volume, he suddenly becomes one of only a handful of prospects who have shown an ability to defend, offensive rebound and shoot as multi-positional player with NBA size.

Assist volume also a serious negative...not many guys average less than 1 assist per game in college and go on to be useful offensive players in the NBA. Needs to be better in that area this year.

It looks like we’ve got another mystery man for this year’s draft a la Giannis, Dante Exum, or Bruno Caboclo.

Aleksej Pokusevski is a Serbian forward playing for Olympiacos II in the Greek second division. There’s almost no film of him this season, but he’s a coordinated 7 footer that can shoot it and handle some. He’s put up impressive defensive numbers as well in his last FIBA tourney. Have heard he’s pretty soft, and doesn’t have the best mentality defensively, but an interesting guy to track no less.

Also looking forward to Baylor-Washington tonight. I believe it’s on ESPN immediately following the Cavs game. Though I have plenty of questions about them, I’ll be intrigued to see Jaden McDaniels and Isaiah Stewart’s debuts. Again, although I’m skeptical of them, they are two of the few non-guards that have at least a chance to be top 10 picks.

Another game I’m interested in is Sienna-Xavier. Jalen Pickett is an analytics darling, but the film doesn’t line up to the statistical projection for me. When I watched him last year, he moved surprisingly slow with an old man’s game. His pre-draft performance reaffirmed those concerns for me... however it’ll be interesting to see him again vs a quality opponent. I mentioned him in a previous post, but Naji Marshall is super interesting for Xavier. Strong wing that has a high basketball IQ on both ends... needs his shot to come around, but a definite future NBAer in my opinion.

Hampton stringing together solid, albeit unspectacular games. Ball and Hayes both putting up some big numbers but struggling with efficiency. Avdija playing well enough in the Israeli domestic league, but appears to have fallen out of Maccabi's Euroleague rotation entirely, which is a bad sign. Maledon should return from a shoulder injury soon.

Is there a better place to look at NBL stats than the NBL website? The structure of their official site is maddening.

Not really a bad sign.
Maccabi is top euroleague and is very deep. A lot of ball handlers and he isnt good enough of a shooter to fit in.

I use realgm for all international guys. Sometimes a day or two behind, but other than that it's a very easy way to keep tabs.

Dunno how you can say that. He was in the rotation for the first 4 games, then had a horrible 6-minute stint in game 5 that saw Maccabi's lead cut from 46-23 to 49-41, was DNP-CD in game 6, and was DNP-CD until garbage time in game 7. Doesn't mean he's a lost cause, but his stock's clearly trending down at the moment.

Trending down, sure. But that has nothing to do with his projection or whatever.
Reason he is out of the rotation is because they need low usage 3&d players to surround Wilbekin, Bryant, Dorsey, Wolters, etc; and so Zoosman has gotten the nod. Maccabi is really talented this year and the deepest team in EL, and Avdoja has fallen out of their rotation because of all of the above rather than because he isnt good.
He is super young and talented, but for him to fit he has to improve his 3 ball. This team does not need his ball handling, so his skillset us diminished on this squad.

So yeah, he needs to improve his 3 ball, but we already knew that.

Hope everyone took a good look at James Wiseman. Won’t be seeing him play anymore games this year.
