Cedi had a lot of time to play, chance to test his skills in new positions, and was kinda the leader or the primary go-to guy last season. That was a bit overwhelming for him and I thought he would do better as a second or third option on the court.

This season Love and TT are back and Cedi still finds himself among the starters. Yet, his offensive role is limited to running the court and getting fixated on the corner. On most times, he doesn't even touch the ball. Neither does he make any attempt to make space for himself.

Do you guys think that this is the new role defined by the coach or is this because he lacks confidence due to his declining role? Maybe he would do better in the second unit as Delly is a fair distributor and the second unit needs a decent option rather than going to Clarkson all the time?

Sorry if these are matters that everyone knew. Have not been in the forum since last season.

On a second unit he would have more attention of the defense and he would have to create himself, which he really cannot do much. I also think he cannot handle taking responsibility, leading the team because of self-confidence issues.

I think his role is good now. He is contributing regularly. The coach should find more ways to involve him in the game.

Last night was a great example of how Cedi should be used. He started and played 37 minutes (highest on the team) but took only 9 shots. His numbers were modest: 11 pts, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, but his +22 was easily the highest on the team. He played good D, committing only two fouls as the Cavs held the Wizards to 15 points under their scoring average even though the Wizards were at home.

Cedi's always been a slasher but this year his 3-point shooting has improved dramatically; it's 45.9% which is unreal. I can't see him keeping it there but he's clearly shooting 3's much better. Beilein has complimented his defense so Cedi is kind of morphing into a 3-and-D guy instead of a slasher who can't hit from outside and is a sieve on defense.

Chris Fedor had this the other day:

"With Osman on the floor, opponents have an offensive rating of 108.8. With him off the floor, it increases to 116.9, showing the Cavs as a better defensive team with him -- a drastic change from last season when teammates privately singled him out as one of the reasons for the worst defense in NBA history. For perspective, the 2018-19 ratings for opponents were 121.0 with him on and 113.9 with him off. ESPN’s Defensive Real Plus-Minus had Osman ranked 73rd out of 74 small forwards...“I don’t know if he’s an all-league defender yet, but he’s growing every day,” Beilein said."

This is total BS, do you have any proof that utilizing Cedi like that will contribute to team's success ? ok if you are telling me I (we) am biased maybe I can say you are biased towards him because he was not born in US or he is not an African American. Is that fair ?

Some BS college coach comes here with the idea of player development he definitely shows some bias towards guys played college basketball and let them do whatever they want and keep Cedi out of ball like he has zero talent. If you want to develop a player Cedi also has good fundamental to grow on. I am watching him since he's 14 and he took the lead of the national team and he will get better. And this opportunity won't be given to him in Cavs, he should look for a place that he will be that explosive player.

I am Turkish and I understand how he feels from his facial gesture and I am telling sooner or later he will tell he is not happy. He should not be while Sexton was shooting 20 times and Cedi 5 times.

The complaints about Cedi’s role are being lodged 90% of the time by fans of his from International play, most of them his Turkish fans.

While it’s great that they are passionate about Cedi and join us here, they often have a hard time not prioritizing their hopes for Cedi’s individual success over the long term success of the Cavs. They see anything less than the roles Cedi has on the Turkish international team as “him being misused” and they are Cedi fans above being Cavs fans or NBA fans.

It sounds harsh but it doesn’t take more than a cursory read through this thread and game threads especially to understand that it’s true.

Cedi's usage is 13%. for a starter that is unacceptable, certainly for a player that has more skills than just being a spot up shooter.

Now, if Beilein's vision is to tell Cedi to first focus on being a consistent, great shooter as well as a defender, and when those two are achieve, then and only then he will get more responsibility then that is totally fine by me.

I will say that Cedi is a better pick and roll ball handler than Sexton, and should be the secondary ball handler when the time is right.

It could also be that Beilein is still feeling out the roster. Cedi's minutes have been going up and Delly's have been going down. I could see certain guys flashing or running the offense perfectly during practice and the preseason. While other guys just play better and show their worth in games.

Also I don't think it was expected that TT would be playing so well and taking 4.5 more attempts per game. I also didn't think KPJ was going to be so playable right off the bat.

I do think TT will come back down to earth at some point and Clarkson will start to have more clunker games where Beilein won't have so much faith in him. Pair that with Delly losing minutes and I think Cedi will get more chances.

The love affair for Cedi is hilarious. He had a bigger role. He failed miserably at it. And not just miserably, but like historically miserable.

That's an exaggeration. And by bigger role, I don't mean shooting step back off the dribble 3's and whatever that he did a year ago. I mean, being more of a decision maker and making plays for others, especially in the PnR. If not that, then at least use him more as a drive and kick threat. He is good at it.

Cedi'srole is limited by the simple fact he has no dribble game. He can't beat guys off the dribble so he will never be an initiator on offense. His best shots are spots ups and close outs with the odd cut and rebound.

Cedi could not shoot a lick tonight from outside, but he was still +25 in 25 minutes and was second in the team in assists with 5 only 1 off from Garland who played about 7 more minutes.

Man...I'm just not a fan of Cedi. Really bummed we signed he to a four year extension. He's a role player at best off the bench.

I'll always be a fan of his but his development has been disappointing

I'm still baffled folks compared him to Ginobili when we first picked him up. He simply just doesn't have the explosion of a guy like Manu. If you don't have that kind of athletic ability you better be a knock down 3 point shooter and he's just not so far. On the break he does well as he's active and has decent size to ward off defenders but in the half court he's not translating well.

I had hopes he could be perhaps a Manu lite with his energy and seeming jack-of-all-trades style, but Manu was indeed considerably more athletic (left-handed people usually have better gross motor coordination as a rule--there have been studies done indicating this) with more moves (the famed Eurostep), much better finishing and touch around the rim, and a more consistent outside shot. Osman also can't create like Manu and has really suffered since James left; LeBron was good at setting him up and getting the ball where he needed it.

I still like Cedi, but yeah, I no longer think he'll be much like Manu.

Hey everybody. People are really down on a guy that is playing pretty well.

Coach said tonight that he needed to get Cedi more involved. Says he needs to draw more stuff up for him.

I really think the ball is just not moving enough yet. Porter Jr actually has the same problem. They really only get it in the corner. Seems like these 2 have to steal the ball in order to operate.

Beilein is prioritizing getting the guards working with the bigs. Cedi is playing well as a 3 and d, even if he didn't get any tonight.

I also think they ought to give he and Porter Jr more time together. They seem to be a pretty effective defensive pairing.

I would like to see him featured with the bench more as a ball handler. 5 assists isn't nothing for a guy with 13% usage.

I don't feel like we're focusing enough on how bad he looks. He's gotten worse?

He is moody. He has gotten so many travelling calls, he is hesitating on drives.

When he has the ball in transition he is at his best. His finishing has been good. His 3 point shooting has been great until the last 3 games where no one can hit a shot.

I'd like for him to get more involved. He really looks the best when the ball is moving. Right now everything is stagnant, and him getting the ball against a shrunk floor, no he isn't going to look that great.

Improving his ball handling should be his priority and maybe watching a lot of tape on guarding PF's. He seems great on the wing, but he isn't boxing out well and can't outjump guys around the basket.
