Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The game was winnable, which is no less than shocking. But when it gets to crunch time in the NBA, talent wins. We have more talent than last year, but Philly has Embliid, and that is who they went to. We can slow him down over the course of the game, but if it comes to that final stretch those guys are a tough out. When we had Lebron we were on the other side of that coin. If we are to be a system team (which is what I think we are becoming under JB) we need to make sure it does not get to that shot. That's why the defensive lapses hurt us.

Relax guys... TT was just keeping the tank strong...

Overall, looks like he was the best Cav player last night... Just a brain fart on that play... Hope he keeps playin good so some team might offer something significant for him... If not, he can just help the young guys how to play hard until hia contract is up...

I never would have thought TT hits 2 3s in a game - even just 1 was amazing.

Off-topic but I would love a Lillard for Simmons swap. Blazers get a reset and Embiid gets a formidable teammate who can shoot and penetrate. Ben is a nice player but his inability to shoot the ball is clearly hurting them. Trade him now before he craps the bed in the playoffs again.

Philly looks good, but they have more weaknesses than other top teams. They can be gameplanned for and they have no stamina. Embiid and Simmons both seem to tire at the end of games. Rim protection is good, but they rely on length more than fundamentals when defending. Celtics or Bucks beat them IMO. Raptors probably could again.

Why is Simmons so afraid to fail? In the 8 games he's played so far out of 10, he's yet to attempt a three pointer even though he spent all off-season working on it. Just incredibly bizarre. I think his inability to shoot the ball will always limit the amount of playoff success they will have.

Their Embiid bully ball doesn't work in the playoffs. He get tired and gets block or the ball gets stripped a lot. They signed Horford to weaken the competition but they don't have enough backcourt strength and I'm not sure how they thought paying Tobias over Butler was a good idea when they traded Covington just to get him.

I'll give TT a pass for the 360 WTF play. He got Clarkson Vision when he was trying to get that ball back the other way and thought the clock was expiring. I was more upset at the dribblefest Clarkson did late in the game before dumping it to Sexton with a paltry amount of time on the clock. Also, he hit TWO 3s in Philly. Ben gotta look foolish after that.

Belein is the GOAT for even suggesting Tristan do this. Imagine if he were around back in 2011. Tristan might be a real Horford Killer then.

The thing that is so crazy for me is that his dad is a former professional player. Yeah not NBA, but still. Why didn't his dad ever ever teach him to shoot? WTF. I guess he was always way bigger and stronger, but aren't you even like "Hey that elbow is way too far out"

3 pointers (FGM/FGA) since Senior year of High School:

Monverde Academy (28 games)
14-15 -- 15/51

LSU (33 games)
15-16 --1/3

NBA (169 games)
16-17 -- Injury missed entire season
17-18 -- 0/11
18-19 --0/6
19-20 -- 0/0 so far

I watched him spam JJ Reddick for impossible shots in late game situations for a few years and now Tobias is his go to. Would rather lose the game then attempt a shot at this point. Entirely mental? Shooting with the wrong hands? Who knows. As matter of facts, the biggest complaint isn't his refusal to take the deep ball when available even, it's that he simply won't shoot anything other than a dunk or layup outside of his rookie season (occasional running spinning fade away shot he likes). I think him and Embiid are a bad fit for each other. Imagine what Embiid could do with a spacing point guard, doesn't even have to be that special.

With the way TT is playing I'm surprised we haven't gotten a "Cavs receiving calls on TT" headline yet. Although I'm feeling less inclined to trade him due to his play but more importantly the leadership role he's taken.

Embiid would play better with Collin Sexton. No Joke. Simmons need to play with 4 shooters and play center. Not even kidding.

We will get offers for Tristan. I think we already have. Question is what are people willing to give up? Another team might find themselves a deal because he will get a smaller contract next time and he has made a lot of money already.

I think the problem for Tristan is we need a really good young prospect. He's 28, and he is playing the best ball of his life and has rested up after 4 finals runs where he was one of the best players in 2 of them. A late 1st won't do it. 2 firsts and I am listening. He should get more than we traded for Mozgov right?

I get why people want to trade Tristan, especially because his value will be insane if he averages 15/10/2 on good efficiency.

But, in my mind, Tristan’s court awareness has immensely helped Darius, Collin, KPJ, and Cedi. First, Tristan is always watching to make sure the young guards have an outlet. This happened like five times last night.

Second, Tristan’s ability as a roll man is creating open players on every pick-and-roll. This is a large reason why Darius’s passing has looked so good.

Finally, Darius did a great job on Lillard last night, but that is because Garland was playing really tight defense. He and Sexton can do this - mitigating their size problem - when Tristan is on the same side of the court.

So I get why people want to trade TT. But - like discussions about trading Kevin Love - I wonder if trading Tristan does more harm than good to our long-term prospects.

It’s also worth noting that the Cavs are a -2.1/100 possessions with Tristan on court, but a -16.7/100 possessions with him off court. A 14.6 points/100 difference.

That number is only a 2.4 points/100 for Love. Tristan has been the Cavs’ best player this year, and it’s frankly not even close.
