2020 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Last year I mentioned that Kaleb Wesson has some hidden upside (especially defensively) if he ever gets in better physical shape. Starting to see some of that this season. If he can be a decent rim protector, he checks a lot of boxes for a modern center.
He was very good against Villanova last week. Did a little bit of everything (10 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks, three assists).

I'm looking forward to seeing how he performs in OSU's other big non-conference match ups (@UNC, vs. Kentucky, vs. West Virginia).

I think judging a draft class early is silly but I'm not a big fan of this class.

Of course people thought 2011 was one of the weakest ever and it is one of the best, especially if your name started with K.

Kyrie
Kemba
Klay
Kawhi

Others would be Jimmy Butler, Isaiah Thomas (pre-hip destruction), Tobias Harris.

Vucevic isnt bad either

Vooch is on a similar level to Tobias. Vooch did lead the Magic to the playoffs. Harris is a great secondary piece but I doubt he himself could lead a team to the playoffs even in the weak east.

I like Okoro a lot but he really needs to sort out his shooting. He kind of taps out as an end of lottery, early 20's guy if he doesn't show a bit more promise as a floor stretcher. Still early but the small sample FT numbers are concerning, as that was a bit of a red flag for him pre college.....especially seeing how poorly he has shot from deep too.

Listening to the breakdown of him on Vecine’s podcast with Cole Swicker they brought his shooting up as well. It is very much a work in progress and they expect it to go up and down quite a bit this year. They did also note however, that the things that are “off” for him in terms of mechanics aren’t the type of things that can’t be fixed relatively easily, so there is reason to be optimistic with regards to his development on that end.

It’s absolutely his swing skill to me. If he keeps showing flashes as a deep threat and improves from the line I think he’s comfortably a top 10 pick. It’s tough because I kind of expect the shooting numbers to be kinda erratic and not great, but the form, smarts and work ethic is all there and I have a hard time seeing him just never materializing as at least a servicable 3-point shooter provided he prioritizes that part of his game.

He was only a 64% FT shooter in EYBL. And that was on 100+ attempts.
He was only a 31% 3PT shooter in EYBL.

What prospects have gone from bad FT shooter / below average 3PT shooter to good 3PT shooter?

Can anyone think of any?

We'll see what happens as the year moves on but the concerning thing with him is he's being afforded a really big role as a freshman but he's not doing anything at an exceptional level. At least from an NBA prospect perspective. All of his metrics in my system say he's, through 5 games, a very average wing prospect. Again, it is early.....but his per 100 numbers are really "meh" through the first 15% or so of his games. Guys develop at different speeds but non conference lag is typically not a great sign.

It’s very much a “you have to actually see him play” thing, I think. He’s not putting up big Numbers, but the way he’s scoring and the flashes he has shown passing hint at very intriguing potential. He ís raw for sure, but he has already shown the ability to finish around the basket with either hand, and while he isn’t close to being a lead ballhandler he has terrific size, strength, speed and body control.

Again, he was widely considered to be a defensive prospect going into College, which he absolutely still is! He is every bit the multipositional and athletic Wing with terrific defensive instincts and intellect that he was purported to be. It’s just that his offensive capabilities are much trickier to evaluate than expected, because he isn’t the type of shooter that one would be able to evaluate him as a traditional 3&D type prospect.

Trust me, he absolutely does some exceptional things on that Auburn team, even if it doesn’t immediately show up in the stats.

So one scout just compared obi Toppin to a young Amare ? Future Obi Safari?

Wow, it's amazing how disappointing Anthony Edwards is. Obviously I picked a bad game to watch, but he's shooting under 40% from the field and under 30% from deep for the season. Feels like this is the kind of draft where a Bennett or a Wiggins goes #1 overall, and the eventual best player is some guy picked in the 6-15 range.

He looks bad? @NMCavs must be giddy

Personally it might be a draft to trade down.

He's trying to make me eat my words with a big scoring run in the second half here. Big picture though, kind of reminds me of watching Okogie in college a couple years ago. Very good athlete/defender. Occasionally gets hot and scores a bunch of points. But not really a special shooter by NBA standards, doesn't dominate the paint offensively like he should with his physique, and doesn't appear to be a special ballhandler/passer either. He'll have to really hit his ceiling to be a #1 option in the NBA, IMO.
