I’m not sure I agree with this. Consensus from most basketball media (Ringer, ESPN, SI, etc) is that Giannis is the early season MVP frontrunner (as he should be putting up prime Shaq numbers plus assists and elite defender). And Luka has gotten a ton of attention. Not just from the basketball hipster Ringer types, but even from the old heads like Barkley who said he’s been the MVP favorite so far.

Only guys who are declaring that LeBron is the early season MVP are guys who predicted LeBron would have a great season and who are enjoying being able to rub his early good start in the faces of their co-hosts who thought LeBron was no longer in the discussion for best player (like Shannon to Skip, Stephen A to Max, Kenny Smith to Barkley).

I also don’t buy that LeBron has invented the narrative that people thought he wasn’t the same caliber of player. Plenty of people were claiming LeBron wasn’t in the running for best in the world anymore (see above). Bill Simmons said he was the 7th best player in the league. Random people, even old allies like David Griffin, took shots at him all summer. Many in the media (rightfully IMO) declared Kawhi the best in the league based on how last season went. Hell after the first game against the Clippers everyone was burying LeBron.

I do agree that LeBron shouldn’t win MVP when he has AD on his team. Not when Giannis, Luka, and Harden have nobody similar on their teams and all three are putting up historic numbers. Giannis is doing it while having one of the best records in the game.

I like your point about analysts who predicted LeBron would be great this year making the most noise about his MVP odds. I think that's an excellent point that I often forget, which is that so much of the analysis we are hearing is colored by guys desire to be right in their claims and predictions.

I'm pretty hyped for this game tonight.

Carlisle is the most overrated coach ever. His rotations are so shitty, and his gameplan is zilch.

I agree but he's likely got a life long tract until he wants to retire in Dallas because he rode Dirk to a Ship. Cuban likely gonna keep him around until he wants out.

Gane got away when he rode Doncic for the full quarter when he was clearly dead tired, instead of subbing him earlier. Then he inserts an all bench lineup that cant create for shit. Lost them the game with his Powell love and Brunson too.

Dallas needs a second star that can create. Porzingis cant create offense and is dependent on Luka. They need a bench offensive creator badly too. And also a defensive stopper. No one on the team outside of Finney Smith can guard on the wings, and he is not strong enough to deal with the bigger wings as well.

Couldn’t it also just be a case of the Clippers being a formidable defensive team with tons of depth across the board? Like, sure, Carlisle has some wonky rotations at times, always has. But that’s what he does, he tries out as many different line-ups as possible during the regular season to get a better understanding of how the team works in specific match-ups and has a better shot at being adaptable in the playoffs.

He’s playing the long game. If that means Luka gets mollywhopped in a November game in order for them to have a better grasp on what that specific match-up entails I think it’s worth it.

You watch the Mavericks?
Anyways, I'd like to ask what exactly do you fancy about his coaching?
I do.

I think he runs good stuff on both ends, puts guys in a position to succeed, evolves with the times, and his teams are typically some of the most disciplined.

My question to you is whether or not there's a single coach you do like? I have only seen you say negative things about coaches.

I prefer European coaches :)

I think a lot of coaches in the NBA are flawed(or are hard to judge) because it's a player driven league. I like Pop and Brad Stevens. I like the teacher type.

Carlisle though is making tons of mistakes, especially this season. Objectively. Though I just guess we have to agree to disagree.

I like the teacher types as well, and I see Carlisle as one of them. I'm with you on Pop and Brad though.
