Yeah, I have a hard time qualifying what Carlisle does as mistakes, when It’s part of his process and has for the most part had very good results. Consider the relatively poor amount of talent he’s been working with over the years and how he’s managed to squeeze out results. It takes time and demands a lot of the players so there are definitely guys who don’t work in that kind of system, but when you look at the type of players he’s gotten productive minutes out of over the years I do think it’s kinda remarkable

Gane got away when he rode Doncic for the full quarter when he was clearly dead tired, instead of subbing him earlier. Then he inserts an all bench lineup that cant create for shit. Lost them the game with his Powell love and Brunson too.

Dallas needs a second star that can create. Porzingis cant create offense and is dependent on Luka. They need a bench offensive creator badly too. And also a defensive stopper. No one on the team outside of Finney Smith can guard on the wings, and he is not strong enough to deal with the bigger wings as well.

I love how your first paragraph comes off after reading your second paragraph. A coach can't figure out how to get a flawed roster to work against a team like the Clippers who have an offensive playmaker with a secondary scorer at all times

I wonder why he maybe ran with Doncic when in your exact words:

I like the teacher types as well, and I see Carlisle as one of them. I'm with you on Pop and Brad though.

It's a reoccurring theme.
Yes, it's a flawed roster, but he had his second unit play against some of their starters and some of their elite bench players who were fresh.
Once Doncic clearly looked fatigued he should have inserted his bench to play against their starters who were tired as well.
No reason to not let him rest the last 3 minutes of the quarter at least.

He should also use Jackson more. Ge rides some of the players too much.

You don't think Rivers would have adjusted and taken out players when he knew he didn't have to defend against Dallas's best player by far? He would just risk them getting tired at that point or picking up a ticky tack fouls against bench players for the units he wanted on Doncic?

W/o going thru the counterfactual this is flawed

Couldn’t it also just be a case of the Clippers being a formidable defensive team with tons of depth across the board? Like, sure, Carlisle has some wonky rotations at times, always has. But that’s what he does, he tries out as many different line-ups as possible during the regular season to get a better understanding of how the team works in specific match-ups and has a better shot at being adaptable in the playoffs.

He’s playing the long game. If that means Luka gets mollywhopped in a November game in order for them to have a better grasp on what that specific match-up entails I think it’s worth it.

No that cant be it. If Dom was coach Dallas would be undefeated.

Every fan base complains about rotations. Everyone of them.

So either all NBA coaches are idiots or......

It's like football and playcalling. Playcalling gets blames for damn near every loss.

Man when you look at the East it is definitely not out of the realm of possibility that the Raptors can get out of it, which is fucking insane and a testament to Ujiri and Nick Nurse. They aren't overly talented.

Possible but I think Milwaukee is a cut above in the East. I still like one of the LA teams for the championship though. Lakers are a lot of fun to watch right now. Never would have imagined the Lakers and Ravens games being appointment television for me, but here we are.

I think the Bucks/Raptors is really fucking interesting and if/when they meet in the playoffs it’s going to lay bare a lot of what Kawhis role was for the Raptors last year and what Giannis’ impact and development really means.

Kawhi was not at 100% during that Bucks series and the notion that he was the one guy negating Giannis is preposterous, but he was absolutely a key cog in the gameplan and had a Big hand in the strategy working as well as it did. The Raptors are going to miss him, but at the same time they still have the necessary components to execute the same gameplan. They’re still long, well coached and versatile on defense and Van Vleet, OG and Siakam have all improved individually.

The Bucks on the other hand... are they a better team than last year? Giannis is a monster, perhaps even more so than last tear, but are they better equipped to deal with the kind of match-up the Raptors Can throw at them? I don’t think they Can count on Giannis to simply do the same stuff he did last time but better and expect to win. They and Giannis need to be able to find another way to attack the Raptors, otherwise I think there’s a very real chance they end up getting bounced again.

The fact the Raptors are even in the conversation is amazing to me.

I still like the Pacers. Of course I'm counting heavily on Oladipo being a really good player again, so that's iffy.

But it's not like the Bucks or Sixers are just so loaded with dominant talent that you cant imagine a scenario in which a Toronto team beats them.

I'm not that big on the Bucks. They just remind me way too much of the first stint LeBron Cavs. I mean, I get it, their roster is probably better. But they are built more for the regular season than the playoffs. Giannis not being a great outside shooter, and the rest of their roster doesn't have anyone that scares the shit out of you. It's easy to gameplan around that come playoff time.

Celtics or Sixers should come out of the East IMO. Raptors and Bucks will make noise, but I'd be surprised if either one actually advances to the finals. Rosters are too thin.

Except that 1st stint of the LeBron Cavs would probably win 3 titles in this NBA....

Losing Brogdon or whatever his name is hurt indeed...Milwaukee is a minor trade away from winning it all

The Bucks honestly look better.

Brogdon is really good but he was never gonna be able to sbow that there with all those other guys handling the ball. I think Milwaukee would be even better if they had kept Brogdon and let Bledsoe go, but looking at them now, keeping both probably made no sense.

So the loss of him, it appears, is somewhat minimal and theyve managed to find something with Divencenzo. While he diesnt fully replace what Brogdon did, Giannis beaing even better than last year is more than making up for it.
