Can you picture Kitchens leading the Browns to a Super Bowl win one day? If the answer is no, why wait one more year to delay the inevitable? I hope Dorsey doesn't stick with him just because it is "his guy".

I didn't say it was a good idea but I'm not sure Dorsey will admit he made a mistake with Freddie after just one season.

If you give Freddie an actual O-line and someone that meshes with him better than Monken, maybe some of his flaws work themselves out over time.

I don't think he looks as in over his head as he did at the start of the season. Maybe he makes a jump after this season.

I'm all for getting a better HC and staff but part of me wonders how this team would look and feel with a competent defense. Too often the momentum swings because this defense can't stop anything. This defense really lacks timely plays and just getting off the field when they should.

Great post here . . .

I can't see Dorsey firing Kitchens mid season even if it is warranted.

I could see it after the season, but I think it's unlikely. He's a first time HC, and it's a bad look for us to fire yet another coach on his first year on the job. Regardless of whether it's warranted or not I just don't think it happens because it will get us nothing but the Mike Pettine's of the world in the future and that's probably worse than sticking with Freddie another year.

He might just need to stop being stubborn about playcalling and give it up next year so he can focus on fixing his coaching flaws like clock management, personnel usage, discipline, etc.

I think he should be fired because his flaws are too many and too significant for me to believe it's just inexperience causing it, but I could be wrong. I think it's more likely he just doesn't have the football IQ or feel for the game for that role, as his deficiencies are things he should already have mastered since he's been around football his whole life playing and coaching and these are some pretty obvious concepts he's failing at.

Eh gonna come down to who Jimmy wants to listen to this time. It'll be Mike Mccarthy or Ed Kevin Stefanski depending who wins between Dorsey and DePodesta.

I'm betting on DePodesta winning honestly

Esoteric.

A good shot at the mormon origin story every once in a while is worth the risk of a joke miss.

I’d also keep an eye out for Jay Gruden. If the Browns fire Freddie, my guess is their top candidates are Stefanski, McDaniels, McCarthy, and Gruden.

Shanny would be a dream but he ain't coming here. He was essentially offered the HC job back when he was a coordinator and skipped town quicker than Freddie running to the front of a buffet line.

Sorry didn’t mean Shannahan. Meant Jay Gruden. Will edit - I’m a dumbass.

Kyle Shanahan? Like, the head coach of the 49ers?

Discounting his bad history with the Browns/Haslams, why would he make a lateral move when he just got his current team clicking on all cylinders?

EDIT: just saw your edit :chuckle:

All the options suck. I guess Stefanski is the least suckiest option but it isn't like the Vikings have been an offensive juggernaut this year either. I just like him over other retreads.

The question is, do some of these options suck less than Kitchens? I think so.

The Vikings are 5th in Offensive DVOA so far this season (5th in passing offense and 10th in rushing offense). The Browns, on the other hand, are 18th, 18th and 9th, respectively.

They've been pretty good on offense since the whole Cousins call out debacle but does that translate to HC success?

If Freddie stays, I hope we would bring in a new DC who plays to our strengths and he's got to check his ego and give up some play calling duties. I doubt Monken would want to stay if that isn't the case.

The whole Freddie experiment has jaded me I guess. What looked good on paper has amalgamated to this. Give any coach with a semblance of innovative play calling these offensive weapons and they'd be rolling on teams.
