2019 Cleveland Browns Regular Season

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I feel like we are fetishizing past coaches just because of short term memory

Maybe Crennel, but no chance on Shurmer or Hue

Yea...we'd be a WHOLE GAME better..whoopie. Yes, that might actually be impactful right now, but I digress.

Mangini would be undefeated.

And if not undefeated he’d be leading the league in penalties and discipline. Professional organization believe that

I'm not as high on Mangini as some, but I do think one of the main reason he fell off the map was Spygate, maybe more than his ability.

The coaching fraternity might not like Belicheat's videotaping, but they think even less of a snitch, fair or not.

May be a dumb question but during the fake fg turned punt there was some controversy when we downed it at the 1. I'm far from a rules expert but i thought it was obviously downed at the one - play should be dead as soon as the ball is touched. But the commentators disagreed and i think some in the game thread said we got away with one?

One can't help but notice Seattle's success in rebuilding after the Legion of Boom and how they did it without a war chest of picks or big FA signees.

Having Russell Wilson certainly helps.

But, one is noticing the Bills, 49ers, Seahawks return to glory, and having done so with fewer assets than the Browns.

Are the Browns that poorly coached or did Sashi and Dorsey collectively squander assets the other rebuilt, playoff teams, would have killed for?

Seahawks have had continuity at the HC position. Shanahan was allowed two losing seasons to get to this point. Buffalo plays in an awful division this year where games against Miami and the Jets are gimmes.

None of those three named situations are anything remotely like what's happening in Cleveland.

I don’t even fucking want to.... but I’m ready to be hurt again

The imminent collapse began after the Steelers scored their first touchdown and the Browns secondary was punched in the face by Duck.

This team knows it now has nothing to play for. If it was last season and there had been zero expectations on it, these games would be “prove it” games with a lot of excitement and enjoyment.

Expect to hear about in-fighting and snapping at each other behind the scenes and eventually in public.

Those are the things that happen when you don’t have a foundation and culture built within an organization. That there is no trust, and no accountability is pouring through onto the screen now.

Coaching and scheming, 100%. Every good team has a successful scheme, which remains successful, even if new players are shuffled in.

I think the Bills are a good comparison; we are considerably more talented. But every week, they do their thing, and it doesn’t change. They’re 9-3, almost a lock to make it. Ball control, defense.

Our scheme is... what? Being undisciplined?

Yet Cleveland beat the Bills three weeks ago. In a no-gimmick, few-turnover game the Browns came out on top of what is now being viewed as a serious football team. Similarly Freddie managed to out-coach Tomlin before the Garrett-Rudolph debacle. Credit to the Steelers for reacting and being better at Heinz but the narrative which has that defeat as a horrible and ugly one is unconvincing. A road game in a stadium in which the Browns never win and to a team with a better record!

KItchens has made huge errors this season, in-game and with the media, yet I actually see some positives. The expectations of fans and of national and regional media that this was a Win Now team this season were unfounded. Some of the pieces are in place to win consistently in the future but other areas of the roster, particularly the OL, need serious reinforcement. Everyone involved surely saw that from the second week of Preseason games. An 8-8 season with that line isn't a disaster. It's not where everyone hoped we'd be but tearing up the entire coaching staff yet again means another transition season, at least.

In all the talk of organizational culture it would be too easy for the Browns to Lose-Fire-Lose-Fire forever. How can the talent stay around for that? Yes this coaching staff needs to tighten up in the offseason. It needs to scheme better to ensure Mayfield is put in positions which take advantage of his skillset. This is nearly a good team.
