New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I watched first two episodes last night. It's still a bit confusing. I guess they are going to keep filling in the pieces.

Is there any reason to go back and watch the movie, which I've never seen?

Ideally you should read the graphic novel, as the show is a direct sequel. The movie would at least give you some context, although it definitely misses a lot of the point of the book even though it's a pretty straight adaptation. The movie wouldn't explain the squid stuff, though, as the ending is different.

so novel doesn't have spoilers? I hate spoilers.

Started leftovers again

Also convoluted. Writing starts getting better episode which was fantastic.

I feel like lindeloff grew up really found himself throigh this series

thanks - that's good to know.

To give you a bit more info, the comic takes place in the 80s and is a takedown of both Reagan era politics and the idea of superheroes in general. That's a major oversimplification of the whole thing, obviously, but that's the basics. And while it takes place in the 80s, it's an alternate history 80s, as the existence of one true superhero (Dr. Manhattan) changes the way real world events played out. For example, the US wins the Vietnam War prior to the events of the series, which leads to Nixon getting re-elected and eventually serving a third term after term limits are abolished.

The show imagines what our modern world would be like following the events of the comic series and, like the original work, is a reflection of the time in which it was made, as you're probably already well aware given that you're a few episodes in.

Also, if you do decide to read the comic, only bother with the graphic novel written by Alan Moore. There have been prequels, probably sequels, and crossovers featuring the characters from Watchmen, but as far as I know the show is only referencing the original graphic novel by Alan Moore and I don't think any of the other works are considered canon by the show, although I haven't read them so I can't say for sure.

I can't say for sure whether or not the show will be rewarding for someone who hasn't read the book or, at the very least, seen the movie, but I think reading it definitely helps you make sense of a lot of things that are going on. The show does do a good job of explaining a lot of it eventually (so far), but several of the characters appeared in the graphic novel as well and you'll probably largely be left in the dark as to their significance if you haven't read it. Laurie Blake is a key example of this, and I think her first episode is episode three. She's one of the main characters in the comic and you'll be left largely in the dark regarding that if you haven't read.

I would definitely recommend reading it, though, because it's one of the best graphic novels ever written and one of the best arguments for comics to be considered art.

Lindelof actually said he listen to alot of the criticism of season 1 of the leftovers and made adjustments going forward. He went on to Grantland's podcast call Hollywood Prospectus (which is now the Watch on the Ringer) and talked about how him and the writers would listen to their podcast weekly after each episode came out.

Final season of The Man in the High Castle felt pretty rushed and all over the place... I hate when shows get cancelled before their time. That said, And this may be a controversial take but I loved this show and couldn’t take my eyes off of it. It was very flawed but the world and the story were pretty gripping and drew me in.

Sad to see it go.

The last season sucked. I loved the rest of the series. That is with realizing how flawed many of the basic concepts of the series were. The story was still quite intriguing and well acted.

Well, I enjoyed it still, but I hear you- it was way too rushed and man Like Thrones I just disagreed strongly with a lot of story choices.

It had a couple high points though. Loved the Berlin part and thought after that we were in for a great finale. But, eh.

Not a great series by any means, but one of my own personal favorites even with the lackluster final season.

The third season of The Expanse was awesome. Makes me want to re-read the books.

Season four looks amazing.

They're putting that Bezos money to good use.

I can't wait to binge the fuck out of this. Was so excited that amazon saved this. Love this universe, cast is amazing, and the storytelling is believable.

If you haven't read the books, they are great too. Really can't wait for season five, as it's presumably going to detail the events from my favorite of the series, Nemesis Games. The Amos plot line in that book is so fucking good.

Most definitely read the books, minus the novellas. Murder snuggles is an awesome character. First read through thought he was older, more grizzled character. Wes Chatam changed my perspective, so did the later books. Entire crew is spot one for the show.

I too loved Man in the High Castle before this season...didn't hate this season but didn't really like it either.

Even season 3, with the big sci-fi twist, I still really liked it.

But this season kinda went off the rails.
