Kluber Traded to Rangers

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Seriously we got a relief pitcher for Kluber

Anyone trying to call this trade anything other than a salary dump is kidding themselves

I don’t think I’m as popular on RCF as I once thought

None of my RCF friends wanted to meet with me after I flew specifically to hang out with them

I even sent @Soda my phone number and he left me on read

Have made some good friends from this board that I’ve been able to count on for years. Then there have been others that are still good friends but have proven not to be counted on.

Yeah I used to consider @Triplethreat a good friend

And I used to consider the Indians front office competent

A lot changed on this trip

The best pitchers are aging pitchers. Look around the league. How many people wrote off Verlander? A lot of folks did. It was discussed and debated on here if the Indians should ante up, he goes to Houston and returns to his level. He's 3 years older than Klubes with a lot more mileage. Aging pitchers still find ways to flourish in today's league. If good health allows you of course and getting your forearm broke is a freak accident.

And rarely in the postseason ever? Dude put 2016 on his back so you can Gtfo with that trash.

To piggy-back off this, here are the top-5 finishers for the Cy Young last season:

AL
  1. Justin Verlander (36)
  2. Gerrit Cole (29)
  3. Charlie Morton (36)
  4. Shane Bieber (24)
  5. Lance Lynn (32)
NL
  1. Jacob deGrom (31)
  2. Hyun-Jin Ryu (32)
  3. Max Scherzer (35)
  4. Jack Flaherty (24)
  5. Stephen Strasburg (31)
Most of the upper-end pitching talent is over 31+, with guys like Cole, Bieber, Flaherty, Giolito, Clevinger, etc. serving as outliers.

If Kluber is healthy next season, I see no reason why he can't return to being a very good pitcher. Maybe not a Cy Young guy anymore, but something around a 3.30 FIP and 4.5-5 bWAR along with a good WHIP.

You didn’t win that Amazon gift card, that’s probably why...

On a serious note we essentially got a defensive minded OF and a likely future closer style of bullpen arm for Kluber. Which at the moment I don’t feel was enough either, but if this makes cap room to sign/trade for another veteran to round out the roster it may have been worth it. We didn’t have him at all last season and won 93 games plus could have won more with better arms in the bullpen. Add in Clase and Karinchak this season who could both be late inning guys on paper and it’s possible we could have a scary bullpen. The Indians aren’t done with the roster and with more cap space I think it’s possible we get a veteran who costs some money (aka 5-10 mil range) to add to the roster which we weren’t going to do before.

If they weren't willing to pay his salary then why did they pick up his option?

I'm looking forward to never going to Western PA and not seeing you. Let's not get together soon.
