Saw some discussion starting in the bowl thread. Unfortunately, it is already time for the best team in the country to look ahead to next year.

Things to watch out for the next few weeks:

1) Who stays and who goes? OSU was loaded this year with elite 3rd year players: Chase Young, Jeff Okudah, Shaun Wade, JK Dobbins. Just getting back one of them would be monumental. Of the group, Shaun Wade is probably the most likely to return. While real OSU fans know he's a 1st round player, he has not gotten even near the attention he deserves nationally. One of the most underrated Buckeyes I can ever remember. His stock could skyrocket next season. His Dad tweeted a couple days ago that Shaun is 50/50 on whether to stay or go.

2) Who replaces Hafley? The man worked magic for our defense this season. Lots of smoke about Kerry Coombs, which I think would be an incredible get. We know he's both an elite recruiter and coach. Bringing him in could also increase the chances of someone like Wade staying.

3) Who replaces Yurcich? The offense was basically perfect this season. Losing anyone from that room is a bummer.

All in all, 2020 will be an incredible team as well. I don't see how the defense will be as good as it was this year, though. The secondary is my only concern. Going to need some young guys to step up big time. The offense will be a juggernaut once again. Dobbins is a GOAT, but Teague is going to be damn good. If Dobbins is Zeke, Teague is Hyde. He will be the best RB in the B1G next season.

Also, how good is Ryan Day? He had some damn tough decisions to make last night, and I didn't agree with all of them, but overall he did a damn good job. And in the grand scheme of things, is there a better offensive mind in football right now? Dude is an absolute wizard. With him running the show that Meyer built, Ohio State is going to be at peak levels for the foreseeable future. Gene should give him a big raise immediately. Hope Day is here forever.

Go Bucks.

What I'm hoping for next year is that the defense and running game comes together at the right time while Fields can get battle tested a little more. I personally didn't have much faith in Fields because the team was so good throughout the year. There weren't enough situations where Fields needed to really rally the troops and pull the game out. Have some early games where they have to lean on Fields and he puts the team on his back to win a game or two will make him alot more ready for the playoffs.

Like a trip to Oregon in week 2???

Rumors on Columbus sports radio that Yurkich leaving may have been mutual. Dunno why Day may have not liked him but thats the buzz.

Facts.

Last time I remember a Buckeye doing this, Cardale went to Glenville to announce he was returning for his senior season.

Any insight on this?

Never meshed with the staff, sort of like Alex Grinch.

He’ll have a chance to go have more of a say in Texas, and the Buckeyes will hire Urban Meyer’s son in law Corey Dennis before he goes to CSU with Addazio.

Young, relentless coach who will be a sponge to day and lead the QB room for a while before he’s ready to take over as an OC.

Yup. Haskins and Fields have both raved about the guy.

And anyone who can convince Urban Meyer to let them marry his daughter probably has the chops to recruit too :chuckle:

Thought I read he wasn’t really pulling his weight in recruiting much either?

You are correct on that. He nearly fucked up the CJ Stroud recruitment by not keeping in close contact with him. Make no mistake, CJ Stroud is a Buckeye because Ryan Day took over his recruitment during the last month.

Those are facts, this is rumor...

Day was pissed over Yurcich's lackadaisical recruiting habits, and he thought that Yurcich wasn't recruiting at a level that should be expected at Ohio State. Had Yurcich not been hired by Tom Herman, chances are Day would have fired him anyway.

Still really glad Wilson is here for the time being; I think he’s a huge in-game and game-planning help for Day — at least for the time being.

Hopefully Dennis has been a sponge in his time here.
