2019-20 Cavaliers Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We've signed Matt Mooney to a 2 way contract.
23 year old, 6'2 pg averaged 13-3-5 in G league for Memphis.

Nice the one thing we don't need. Another guard. Oh well. Better then Levi Randolph. Also getting 1.9 SPG. He can get in passing lanes. That seems nice.

Can’t be any worse than Knight or Delly surely

I mean I proposed the drunk guy in the 2nd row instead of Levi Randolph. I think that same drunk guy could take Dellys corpse or Knight 1 on 1.

But on a more serious note on Matt Mooney. Since I work a over night job and was bored I looked him up some. Seems like a Pat Beverley type. Defensive pest who will have his moments on offense but his Defense is what plays. Hes 6-3 but long 6-9 or 7-2 wingspan internet doesn't give me a solid answer on the wingspan. Oddly his age is listed as 23, 24 or 25. He's born February 7th but depending on the source its 95, 96 or 97. Either way he seems like a guy who will fit in well next to Garland or Sexton if he shows anything over the next few months. If anything we got a summer league point guard.

It's 97 btw. Noticed that google's mini wiki box says 94, but the actual page says 97. G-League profile says 97 as well. Let's go with that.

No way he has a 6'9 wingspan, let alone 7'2!

I'm going by what I read. He has long arms.

After recording the fourth- and fifth-best scoring totals in South Dakota history, Matt Mooney adjusted his game to a more defensive state of mind. It was an easy transition considering the 6-foot-3 guard had a 6-foot-9 wingspan and already knew how to figure out opponent's tendencies.

A different article claimed 7-2 but it was older.

From a column by Kelsey Russo in The Athletic on the Cavs at the halfway point:

"For Collin Sexton, he described “togetherness” as the biggest growth for the team.

“We’re pretty much playing for one another and we’re out there just competing,” Sexton said. “At the beginning of the season, it was a lot less communication, a lot of attitudes, a lot of disrespect and stuff like that towards each other. But now, I feel like we’re all coming together and coming into our own.”

John Henson gave one concrete example of growth they’ve seen in the number of passes. Ball movement has been an area of emphasis throughout the first half of the season, and it’s been more noticeable in the recent stretch of games. The Cavs ranked 20th in passes per game through the first 20 games, but they’re 12th in games since Dec. 6. That inches them up to 16th on the season with 289 passes per game. For context, the Warriors lead the league with over 333.

Like the first 20 games we never got over 250 passes in a game, and now we consistently have over 300. So, that’s like a little bit of growth, and you don’t always see it in the wins and losses, but between us and between the coaches and players we see that growth,” he said.

With that ball movement comes an increase in assist numbers. Beilein emphasized how assist numbers are rising for players like Love, Sexton, Darius Garland, Tristan Thompson and Cedi Osman, among others. There’s a willingness to share the ball and pass out to find other players on the floor. It’s still a work in progress because through 41 games the Cavs average 21.5 assists per game, which ranks 28th in the league."

Baby steps. Now we wait and see if anything happens before the trade deadline. With Love playing back-to-back nights last week and scoring 29 points on the second night I'm hoping somebody takes notice and makes us an offer. Thompson had 22 rebounds last night including 10 on the offensive glass.

Around 20 wins is what I expected. With the weakest part of the schedule until early February, they will probably get a couple of wins by the all star break.

I think even in this last stretch of losing there has been less yelling at each other and fingerpointing on the court. The reality is that I think they made progress in the way they play on the road. Collin has still been taking a lot of shots, but Garland has been handling the ball more and Collin has been moving the ball more.

Letting Mckinnie walk was a clear tank move imo. Just felt like the FO saw McKinnie being useful and decided to take that tool away from Beilein right before playing a team that was right behind us in the standings.

I'm sick of all the losing personally. It gets old. Wasn't there some talk about us hitting a stretch of win-able games? Must of not got here yet, Knicks don't count right, even though they've lost 8 of 9 prior to us letting them feel good about themselves.
Some more ranting - I would of kept McKinnie, who else we got? wtf Also I'd start playing every able body we have, to see if anyone can help towards a win. Give me a reason to watch, a couple wins won't kill the tank for what it's worth. We'll end up picking 5-6 at best anyhow. Then what?
We're all happy Clarkson is gone yet we ain't won shit since and the Jazz seem to win every night.
I'm just bitching, sorry. I know we got some injuries. maybe that's all it is.

Who are we even tanking for? I mean is there 2 or 3 significant difference makers in this draft?
If there is I haven't heard of them. I thought Wiseman but it seems like some have soured on him. Maybe Edwards? He would slide in nicely to the two guard.
I'm sure we will get a pretty good player but I'm with Jake I'd like to see some wins.

I think they might bring him back in the next couple days. No one is picking him up before the trade deadline. If they can hold out bring him back til the 27th that takes them all the way till the trade deadline and they can resign him on February 6th if they have a roster spot after the deadline has pass. If they are at 15 players, the next game isn't till February 9th so they have a couple days to work out a buy out.

You really think McKinnie would start on any good team? Cause I think that is borderline delusional.. love you like a brother, but that's how I see it..

They should just chill with the tanking because that didn't help the Cavs to get a pick in the top 3 (and the freakin Lakers got #4) last offseason. Next draft not having a real obvious difference maker might be to the Cavs benefit as it is.
