2019 NFL Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Does anybody have advice on how to watch the game? My parents are acting like they want to have a Super Bowl party at their house even though they don't have cable. I just don't know if I trust any streaming or antenna crap for an event that big. I feel like cable is the only way to go. Unless someone has good experience with streaming the Super Bowl?

Is Hulu Live or Youtube TV any good? I'm sure they are legit on a normal day. Idk about SuperBowl day. It seems risky.

Go to your parents and test out the rabbit ears. Will answer if rabbit ears work very quickly. YouTube TV is another good option - with respect to OTT options, it’s the most stable and the one I’d trust the most on Super Bowl Sunday.

I agree OTT is most reliable. As long as they get the channel regularly no issue for the super bowl. Plus the quality will be better then cable.

Have Hulu Tv never had a streaming issue at all. Only issue I have found is the feed 20/30 secs delayed over OTT or Cable.

Well they did pick up channels with some sort of antenna but it stopped working so I definitely don't trust it. But I talked to someone who uses Youtube TV and they like it. Not sure how it works, but no threat of the service getting throttled with everyone going to jump on a trial to watch Super Bowl?

What do you mean channel regularly? Like available locally? I've heard worse things about Hulu Tv but it might work. Shoot, even the free options could work fine. I just don't want to risk it at all with this event.

Like for me, before I went to streaming, I had Dish, but did not want to pay for a box for every tv. So in my bedroom and garage I had antennas on them and a streaming box. As long as the tv got the local channel through the antenna I never had an issue getting sporting events or special events. So if it works for regular shows you will be able to see the Super Bowl. We also had an antenna on the main tv for bad storms and it would work even when dish went out.

For Hulu Tv have had almost for 6 months, never had an issue at all streaming. Now again I do have like a 300mb download speed and have a mesh router system set up. I have a petty big house and never an issue on any TVs getting service. Even my tv I bring outside connects and runs smooth on Hulu Tv.

Interesting. Another thing is that they use Roku. The software is up to date but the actual model is old. I don't know if that matters or it's just Roku, but the navigation on that thing is atrocious. It lags out all the time just trying to scroll through the menu.

Do you have cable yourself? The Super Bowl will be on the Fox Sports Go app, so as long as someone you know has a cable login, you can download the app on your parents Roku and add the login information. And if the Roku is 4K and they have a 4K TV, even better. Fox will be broadcasting the game in 4K on their app (technically 1080p upscaled I think, but still better than what you'd get via cable).

If not, then I'd definitely just get one of those flat antennas and test if they get Fox reliably. If they have no problem with the channel cutting in and out or getting fuzzy, you're good to go for the Super Bowl most likely.

Honestly it's the Roku. They are notorious for being shitty at times. My Ultra routinely crashes on the standard Youtube app, the Roku 3 crashes on a whim.

Personally I'd recommend YoutubeTV. I tested most of them during our Finals runs. YTV had the consistently better quality and I don't think I've ever had buffering issues the way I have with Hulu/Philo/Sling etc.

I also have YouTube TV And it’s fantastic. Fairly cheap for all the channels you get. I’ve had it for about a year and haven’t had any issues with streaming. Super easy to sign up and get going. Highly recommended.

I don't have any TV streaming services right now but I've tried them all and YouTube TV was my favorite. They probably offer a free trial, just activate it on Saturday, verify it works at your parents house, cancel before you get billed. Problem solved.

I appreciate the advice guys. I guess I'm going to some families house now that has cable. I think it's a smaller house so I don't know how many people they are going to pack in, but it should be fun.

But some still might watch the game at my parents, so I will definitely recommend Youtube TV if they want to go that route. Seems like a good consensus.

As mentioned above there is a free trial. I believe its 7 days but I'm not positive. I remember cancelling before being billed as an option when I first signed up but I loved the service so it never became an issue.

Im not sure how KC is going to stop San Fran’s offense. Pundits keep acting like the 49ers offense can’t compete with KC’s. Or they can’t win a shootout. When they actually can.

They are so hard to stop on the run and they have weapons all over the field. Deebo and Kittle are big problems on the field.

Mahomes is going to need his best game of the year likely to win this. Unless Jimmy G becomes a turnover machine.

Florio with the hot take:

The "closer to Brazil and Costa Rica" thing sounds silly. Hard to believe a little more time in a private jet every now and then is a meaningful factor. This is kind of like when Dubs fans were hoping Bogut was immediately coming back to GS in 2017 after his unfortunate stint here because "he would be closer to Australia."
