New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I was just about to say, read the thread. It's been brought up numerous times. Personally, I'm a huge fan.

Yeah my bad. I typically go back 2-3 pages when I’m thinking about mentioning something and I didn’t see anything within that frame.

I watched the opening episode last night and was immediately in. Fucking loved it; it’s done so well because in theory how can you make a show about an IT guy so suspenseful and tense? But there I am, tense as fuck. I also love Eliot’s character already. Dude kills that role.

I’m saying all this after one episode.

All I can say is pay attention. There will be times that you are absolutely confused as to what is going on, and it may not be explained for 4-5 episodes later. I still need to get around to finishing the final season myself.

I just finished Season 3 yesterday. I had seen the series once before but it had been maybe 2 years and I wanted to refresh myself for Season 4.

1 is great, 2 is really good and better than I remembered, 3 was kinda meh IMO. I'm like 1-1/2 episodes into 4 and am enjoying it so far. First episode was pretty thrilling

Has anyone seen Sam Esmail's new show, Briarpatch? Also on USA. It's co-written by Andy Greenwald, who is a former (I think) TV critic and co-hosts The Watch podcast on The Ringer network.

I am about 1-1/2 episodes into Briarpatch and I'm not entirely sure how to describe it. The plot hasn't quite caught me. Its style is quirky yet dull and overall is missing the mark for me. I'm going to stick with it for now. I believe the 3rd episode came out last night

On the subject of Esmail, Homecoming (Amazon Video), was a giant disappointment after coming away super intrigued after the pilot.

Was going to echo your sentiments on Briarpatch. Haven't seen Homecoming, but if that's the case, worries me that Esmail is going to pull off one great show, and everything else will pale in comparison.

To backtrack myself a bit here, it looks like Esmail is the Executive Producer on Briarpatch; Greenwald is the creator.

Esmail created Mr. Robot and Homecoming and it appears he has a few mini-series that have been announced or are in pre-production, per IMDB

Not sure how much the distinction matters. I know this is Greenwald's first time diving into TV creating/producing and Esmail is a good friend

Also, it looks like Homecoming has a 2nd season coming out in 2020. Great cast, just found it dull and unimaginitive, personally.

I've listen to Andy Greenwald and Chris Ryan podcast for years so I'm going to probably watch Briarpatch just out of loyalty. The first 2 episodes just feel discombobulated instead of feeling like a mystery. It might feel better as a binge vs a week to week show. I think the inexperience of Greenwald shows in the visual aspects of the show. The visuals don't draw you into the show. That's the thing with Esmail and other good writer/directors is they understand how the visual aspects of TV go hand in hand with the writing. They can almost draw your attention into certain important plot points with the visuals and your brain subconscious picks up things necessary to put things together in the story. That's where I think Briarpatch is lacking so far.

I really don't know what is important in the show and just filler. Everything just feels too consistent visually. I will hold judgement of it until I watch the whole season because they could have just design this show for binging.

Are any of the star trek shows in 4k/HDR yet?

I think TNG is, but I've heard that DS9 and Voyager were filmed in a style that makes it extremely unlikely they ever get an HD remake.

Which is a shame, because I missed the original airing of DS9 and watching it in SD is just rough.

Finished Mr. Robot Season 4. Thought most of the season was pretty great but the last 2 or so episodes were pretty rough to get through, in my opinion.

Personally, I loved Homecoming. I thought about it for a few weeks after it was done.
