2020 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
A freshman top-20 recruit is putting up the following per-100 stats for a top-10 team:

26.6 points (.50/.41/.79 shooting), 9.6 boards, 2.5 assists, 1.1 steals, 2.0 blocks, 2.3 turnovers

I've rarely seen him in mock drafts.
Seems as though you're talking about Matthew Hurt.

He grades out around a traditional mid 2nd for me.

Potential plus shooter at his position......but on a possession basis, he's pretty much below average in everything else......and his overall grade is that of a very average NBA big man prospect.

He should go back to school from what I see.

Who doesn't want another stretch 4 on their roster, though? I'm only half joking. Clearly a good shooter, and no red flags elsewhere. I'd happily spend a late 1st on the next Maxi Kleber.

So, had my first chance to watch Toppin and Edwards play this week. Probably Obi's worst game, or close to it, but he seemed very stiff and sort of awkward in his movements, not smooth at all. He also looks very skinny, especially for a 22 year old. If he was 18 I'd figure he would fill out, but at 22? Edwards has a good body already and moves well but his shot was as bad as advertised unfortunately. To me, on first impression, Toppin looks like strictly a PF and Edwards a good sized combo guard. If this is what you get in the top 5 or 8 of this draft, though, well . . . yikes.

I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but where does Garza's season rank among the best pure scoring seasons by a center in NCAA history? And given that he's in that conversation, how is he not an obvious first rounder in a weak draft? Doesn't make sense to me at all.

Looks like Green had a statement game against Oregon State: 18 points on 7/11 shooting, 4 boards, 6 dimes, and 4 steals. Anyone watch it?

He seems like he will get eaten alive on defense though.

Oh yeah this is not a draft to go crazy if you are looking to got a franchise changer. The more you look, the more depressing it gets. The kid from Israel could actually go in the top 2 at this point based on how the prospects are rounding out.
This is a role player draft all the way. If you get a solid starter in the top ten this year , you drafted very well. Going to be a decent amount of guys that are no longer in the nba on second contracts drafted this year in round one.

Will he? I don't think he'll be very good, but his steal/block/rebound numbers are certainly within the "normal" range for a center prospect, he seems reasonably smart, and he plays with great energy. Main concern is his lack of vertical pop, but he wouldn't be the first center to develop into a solid defender in spite of below-average vertical athleticism.

Well I don't know him too much so I don't want to jump to hard conclusions. But when I watch him I see a really limited player athletically, and im a little scared when thinking about how he will look like against the athletes in the NBA.

Hopefully his smarts can counter some of that, like you say. His offense looks great.

I just think athleticism matters a little bit less for big guys defensively. Guys like Gasol and Draymond who're average athletes at best can become DPOY. Guys like Jokic who can barely jump over a phone book can become league-average defenders. So much of it comes down to IQ, effort level, and physicality.

Not saying Garza's a lock to be a league-average defensive center, but I think the pathway exists for him to be a league-average defensive center and a very good offensive center. That's a more than acceptable ceiling in the late first round.

Well you are right for sure. My worry was not so much about the vertical deficiencies particularly, but more so the lateral, because he looks like he will likely find difficulties defending in space and against ball handlers.

But IQ can still make up for that too. And yeah if he's just league average to slightly below, he would be a nice get. Hell freaking Kevin Love is a good player even though he's a complete and utter turnstile.

what am I missing on Elijah Hughes from Syracuse? Is it a matter of familiarity breeding contempt? I hate the "his potential is capped" arguments because it makes GM's pass on good players who can contribute in favor of bad players who have magic beans promises that only deliver at a hit rate of like 13.7% (I'm obviously pulling that number out of my ass for effect).

Anyway, still not sure who I'd take at the near top of the draft. Kind of leaning Toppin who I think would pair nicely with Andre or Nance Jr. (I'm also imagining a scenario where we find a taker for Love). I think he will be a solid NBA player and maybe a solid starter. This draft looks capped at that level player, so you need to make sure you get one, imo.

Those issues are what drop him from possible lottery guy to late first kind of guy in my mind. Like, I think he's a generally similar prospect to Kaminsky...Kaminsky was obviously drafted too high at #9, but that's a reasonable kind of prospect to draft in the 20's.

is 9-13 really a bad spot for a player like that? I feel like there was barely 9 solid starting/strong contributing level players in the 2015 draft
