2020 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I agree with @chrisrich91

This easily can all be done remotely. I saw some sort of tweet that some execs are worried about not being able to do their "psych" and/or character evals in person, but do what the vast majority of us corporate people are doing...virtual. Go back to old school and watch the tape. Grind film.

I doubt there is any technical problem preventing holding the draft whenever they want. The issues are the visits, medicals, and such that they hold dear, for good reason, they're going to spend millions on these draftees. Not to mention the conditions around the country being varied, it would cause competitive advantages which are just as important offseason as in.

While I'm geeking out a little - the last great NFL draft for tackles is undoubtedly 1997.

Orlando Pace #1 overall to the Rams
Walter Jones #6 overall to the Seahawks
Tarick Glenn #19 to the Colts
Ross Verba #30 to the Packers

Rare to find a draft with so much starting level left tackle talent. This one should be even better.

2013 was supposed to be there. Fisher/Joeckel/Johnson all in the top 4.

Joeckel was a bust, Fisher is a disappointment but still a starting level left tackle. Lane Johnson is a beast. If you factor in David Bakhtiari developing into one of the best tackles in the game, 2013 is the best since 1997.

He also seemed to suggest that Thomas and Wirfs were more likely targets than Wills and Becton.

I do not know how much he actually knows... but this would make sense. They both have experience at left tackle and in the zone-blocking scheme that Stefanski is going to run.

You know we are missing sports when we are debating the best drafts for left tackle, lol

How dare you call me out on the obvious!

Now how do you think the Joe Thomas draft stacks up? In detail, of course...

4 Pro Bowlers

Joe Thomas, Joe Staley, Marsha Yanda, and Bushrod. Probably the only HOFer is Super Joe, but he will be a first ballet, so a pretty good class.

Not calling you out, honestly i was reading it too. I am upset they arent showing more final 4's of the past personally, think it would be entertaining.

One reason I ask is because I've grown to really appreciate Staley. Thomas and Staley were both converted high School tight ends. Is that an indicator for future successful left tackles? Only our home-bound quarantined minds can find out...

True story, they both converted from tight end out of fear of playing the same position as Gary Barnidge. Barnidge such a good guy that he was the one that coached them up and helped them both to convert.

I still think that draft class may have been the best in the modern NFL in terms of elite football talent.

All of these players were the best player in the league at their position for a long time:

RB: Adrian Peterson
WR: Calvin Johnson
OL: Joe Thomas
LB: Patrick Willis
CB: Darrelle Revis

That's just crazy.

The draft also had others who were long-time pro-bowlers in Marshawn Lynch, Greg Olson, Eric Weddle, Marshal Yanda, and the great Nick Folk (the last one is a joke).

That draft had six guys who were generational talents, three that were multi-time pro-bowlers who teams had to gameplan for over a substantial number of years, and 25 other players that made at least one pro-bowl.

It is the NFL's 1984 NBA draft. Just elite of elite.

Who's the sixth generational talent in your eyes? Yanda?

Because, to me, the next best player in that draft may have been Jon Beason. Completely underrated MLB. One of the best.

Don't forget about Steve Smith or Ryan Kalil.

Oh, and Le'Ron McClain was the best blocking FB in the league for a long freaking time as well.
